Help autorunning PStart and roboform

Hello,

I am having some major issues here. Today I picked up a 4gig usb drive. THANK GOD it doesn't have u3 on it being that I am running vista. Anyways. I have roboform set to autorun but I can't get anything else autorunning. Below is my autorun.ini file. If someone could tell me what to put in it so that it can run both roboform and pstart that would be great. Thanks in advance. I tried searching the forum and google with nothing helping me there.

[AutoRun]
open=PortableRoboForm.exe
action=Launch RoboForm2Go
shell\RoboForm2Go=Launch RoboForm2Go
shell\RoboForm2Go\command=PortableRoboForm.exe
icon=PortableRoboForm.exe
label=0984910RW

As far as I know, you can

As far as I know, you can launch only 1 app using the autorun.inf.
You can use my app launcher which will launch PStart and RoboForm,
just set your autorun to run the app launcher and set the app launcher to run PStart and RoboForm.
App Launcher
Or set your autorun.inf to run PStart, then in PStart add a link to RoboForm and set it to start when PStart starts its an option under advanced in PStart when you add the link.

You're right, SmithTech

you can only run 1 app using the autorun.inf.
I had to painfully learn that myself.

Or

Set your autorun.inf to open a launch.bat and have that do everything you want. I have mine open PortableAppsMenu, SumatraPDFPortable to the current PDF I am working through (which is even more of a bonus that it opens to the same page), Notepad++PE to open three files that I am using to practice python, javascript, and VBScript, and then Firefox Portable Edition to open the javascript practice page and VBScript in IETab(wish I knew a commandline parameter to throw at this one), and a command window to test the python work. This changes weekly, but it is really convenient. I plugin and can practice and learn anywhere.

Thankyou

Thanks for all the help guys. I am fairly new to editing files like this so hopefully it should work out for me. I will get back as soon as it works/doesn't work. Thanks again.

Edit: So how would I set the autorun to open your app launcher? Like how would I modify that code, or what parts? Excuse my non-knowledge Blum

Just download the zip file

Just download the zip file and extract it to the root of the usb drive.
The autorun.inf is included in the zip.

The app launcher has 3

The app launcher has 3 "built in" launch options.
\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
\PortableApps\PStart\PStart.exe
\Programs\PStart\PStart.exe

And 3 custom launch options which you can configure as well as specify an argument.

Well I tried

Smitty,

Found your website and your application launcher info and pages.

Did exactly what the page said about replacing my lauchpad.exe with your application launcher. Edited all the settings like you mentioned with ResHacker and the other applications mentioned. Ran the Updater and everything went fine, backed up all the files and put down the new *.ISO. Then the updater told me to remove the drive and replace it for the update to take effect. Did that and.....

Nothing happened. Opened up the drive itself and saw drive M: and R: (No particular reason other than XP assigned the next drives.) I double clicked on the applauncher.exe and the Nice application with all the selections and options were available.

Clicked on the files to load on start up and PortableApps.exe that were available. I don't have PStart installed so unchecked those. Then tried to save the options, but to no avail. Looked at the root drive of the USB and had applauncher.exe and autorun.inf, but both are "Read Only" files. So when I try to save the options, it will not let me. I tried to turn off the "Read Only" on the drive, but was not allowed to do so.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something I can do to fix this problem. Or should I start all over? This is the Memorex Mini Travel Drive that I am trying to configure. Any help would be greatly apprciated.

And thanks for everyone's great help on this forum.

What OS are you running? I'm

What OS are you running?
I'm assuming the M: is the CD partition, and R: is the flash partition?
Check the R: drive for the applauncher.ini file, if it is there open it with a text editor and let me know what is in it.
Probably a silly question, but is PortableApps Menu in R:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu ?
Did the U3 LaunchPad load prior to removing it from the drive?

Wow thanks for the quick

Wow thanks for the quick reply.

Ok, when I had finished the update, I could not access the R: (Application Drive). All I could access was the M: Drive (CD Image, I believe).

Before installing applaunch.exe and doing the update, I was able to run LauchPad.exe with no problems. I was also able to launch all programs on the R: Drive by double clicking them.

And yes, Portableapps.menu was in R:\portableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe

All I was really trying to do was get more than one application to run, besides the one that LaunchPad would start on plugging in the USB Drive. And from what I could tell your application would do what I wanted it to do.

I am sure it is something I did but was just wondering if you could tell? I was not able to tell what the *.ini file said, as I was not able to access the R: Drive.

I too am very new at this, but did have backups of everything so it is no loss of information or data. Just trying to get your program to work.

Again thanks for the quick reply...

When you say you can not

When you say you can not access the R: drive what do you mean?
Does it not exist?
Do you get an error?
If you can't access it, then most likely the launcher can't access it either.

Yep

That is probably the whole problem.

As I mentioned, when I plug the USB Drive in the slot, I get 2 new disk drives. I am running Windows XP (SP2)[Forgot to mention that earlier]. The M: Drive is the Image of the ISO files (I believe). Then the R: Drive is where all the programs and files are located. If M: doesn't start, then all I get when I try to access R: is "Please insert disk into drive" Abort, Retry, etc.

So for some reason, when I insert the USB Drive, it is not starting the launcher on the Drive M: to gain access to the R: Drive.

I am going to back up and try again and see what I am doing wrong. I know when I first tried to get your launcher program to work, I double clicked and and tried to save the settings. But I was unable for it to automatically launch the R: drive. Am going to try it again.

Will let you know what I find out...

Not for sure why!

Well I have tried everything that I know, which isn't that much :), but to no avail. I can not get the Applauncher to work at all with my Memorex Travel Drive.

I went back to the original setup that came with the drive and got that working. Then went back to your site and followed your instructions again to the letter. Got back to the formatting and updating and restoring the drive back with the program files. But when I took it out and reinserted it back into the computer, no go with the reboot. I saw the applauncher.exe and autorun.inf in the root directory of the CD Image Drive. But I could not access the Program Drive, Drive M:

I guess Memorex has some unknown set up that will not allow it to boot off anything but their proprietary launcher program.

I went back and reinstalled the original set up and everything works fine now. Even got the applauncher to work with the Memorex Launcher. And on the Root Dir of M: now is:

autorun.inf
launchpad.zip
launchu3.exe

and here is the autorun.inf

[AutoRun]
open=LaunchU3.exe
icon=LaunchU3.exe,0

[Definitions]
Launchpad=LaunchPad.exe

[CopyFiles]
FileNumber=1
File1=LaunchPad.zip

Maybe you will be able to make some since out of this, I for one am at a complete loss why your applauncher.exe doesn't work with my drive.

The good news is that with your program I have gotten the programs I wanted to launch on U3 Insert. Thanks and thank you very much for your help...

Don't know if it will help

Don't know if it will help or not,
but if you up for giving it a try,
you can download Kingstons Installer, its more up to date than Memorex's.
Kingston Download Page
Follow the same instructions, but change Memorex to Kingston in the instructions.
If you decide to try it let me know.
As always make sure you back up, and keep a copy of Memorex's Launchpad.iso incase you need to revert back.

Very Strange Behavior

Ok, did the same thing with the Kingston Updater and believe or not got the same thing that happened with the Memorex Updater and your applauncher.exe

I didn't think anything about it yesterday, but when it happened today, I recognized it this time.

Yesterday after doing the update with the Memorex updater and your launchpad.iso, after the update was complete the updater said to take the U3 Driver out and reinsert it, which I did. For some reason windows explorer opened up a Temp folder. I just closed it and tried going to the R: Drive. That's when I found out that R: was not accessible and why applauncher would not launch.

Now today, I got the same behavior after doing the Kingston Updater and using your Launchpad.iso

When I insert your ISO it windows explorer goes to C:\Documents and Settings\Freeop\Application Data\U3\0BF1276120D288F0 and that folder has nothing in it. I am not sure if that is the same folder when I did the Memorex update, but I do remember it did go to C:\Documents and Settings\Freeop\Application Data\U3\?????

For some reason, instead of going to R: and launching applauncher, it goes to that directory. As I said am not real familiar with everything on the U3 side, but that is what is happening now. If I go back to the Memorex set up, everything works fine.

Also, when I use the Memorex Setup, it always asks for my password before it launches all the programs, whereas your launcher does not ask for the password.

Hope this helps a little, and as I said before, I have probably got something all fouled up on my XP System that makes your launcher not work properly on my system. Dunno...

That is really odd behavior,

That is really odd behavior, that is what usually happens when you try to run the LaunchU3.exe after U3 has been removed from the cd partition.
I will have to try and get my hands on a memorex drive for testing.

Thanks

Thank you very much, but as I said, it just might be my set up here on this XP system. One thing I do have running that might change things is Directory Opus. That is my Windows Explorer Replacement program. (File Manager).

But when it happened the second time today, I shut down DOpus and then tried to insert the Memorex Drive. Unfortunately it automatically launched DOpus and the same directory came up.

Again thanks for you patience and all your help...
