I'm looking for a portable printscreen app, maybe like Gadwin PrintScreen which isnt open source but still... i think it'd be nice to carry around on a stick. and it'd just log every printscreen... just a thought...

Not open source, but free and portable. I use and love it.
...is not OSS (at least I don't think it is), but *is* free.
AND is a fully portable app for screen captures, and fairly small - a single EXE file weighing in at 448 Kb. Get it here:

Bon appetit!

FastStone Capture is another one that you might want to give a try.

That's an excellent idea.
I just realized it's the same one you recommended.

Thanks, you guys rock!!
This can capture the entire screen, a window, and any rectangle. It saves in bitmap, png, tiff, and gif. Get it from http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html I don't know the license but it is free for non-commercial and commercialuse.

MWSnap, though not on SF.net is OpenSource GNU.
Same goes for PINs, by the same author.
I have them both working off of my flash drive, though I think they write to the host machine (not anyplace you need admin rights to get to, though).
I'd like to package them for PA ... I'm poking around trying to figure out what I need to do.
Any computer with a keyboard! it is that button that says "Print Scrn", next to the scroll lock button. hit that once and past it into paint or your fave foto editor.

The whole point of a portable screenshot application is so you don't have to open up Paint or a photo editor and paste the image in place, it just does a direct save to a file. Also, many screenshot apps offer options not available in the standard Print Scrn control such as capturing a highlighted area.

PINs, by the same author is OSS, but MWSnap isn't. Just wanted to come back here and correct my earlier statement.
