When I right click the Firefox Portable app icon on my flash drive, the version number that appears is v1.3.3.0 dated 2/24/07. Is it really possible that I am running a version that is that old and is still dated Feb 07?

That's the version of the launcher (FirefoxPortable.exe - the piece that makes it portable), not Firefox.

How do I verify the version of Portable Firefox I have installed
Easiest way is to pop open your help.html... it's in the FirefoxPortable directory. That's the version that you installed... of course, Firefox may have been auto-updated. You can check Firefox's version in help - about.
The PortableApps.com Menu will be displaying package version numbers in the next release.
