For this release i'm going to pretend that every computer has java. (From my experience almost all do, so the java crutch doesn't bother me.)
I put together a portable version of Azureus 2.5.0.0 with the advanced statistics plugin pre-installed. I used a compiled batch file rather than NSIS, which will work (in theory) on WinNT/2k and XP. It might work on Vista-- if a Vista user could test this compatibility that would be great.
Anyway...
[Link removed under suspicion of malware/virus-infected software - moderator RM]
a proper NSIS version at the moment.
Might take a look at that batch file

whats the advantadges of this over uTorrent, which is already portable, and doesnt need java ?
Check out the wikipedia feature comparison @

This cant be portable, uses java

Java apps are portable as long as you have the JRE.
After talking with a Java software developer, I have found out that Java apps cannot write to the registry.

You can write the reg with java.
And that developer is not a developer
So be carefull before takeing for granted something.
Here is the code for java
import java.util.prefs.*;
public class winReg {
Preferences prefs;
String defaultValue = "NA";
String InstalledDate ="",version="";
public static void main(String[] args)
{
com.kanad.reg.winReg wr=new com.kanad.reg.winReg();
wr.setValue();
wr.getValue();
}
winReg()
{
try
{
//HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs
//HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs
prefs= Preferences.userNodeForPackage(com.kanad.reg.winReg.class);//HKEY_CURRENT_USER
// prefs= Preferences.systemNodeForPackage(com.kanad.reg.winReg.class);//HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
}
catch (Exception E)
{
System.out.println(E);
}
}//winReg
public void setValue()
{
try
{
prefs.put("Installed",new java.util.Date().toString());
prefs.put("Version","1.0.0");
}
catch (Exception E)
{
System.out.println(E);
}
}
public void getValue()
{
try
{
InstalledDate = prefs.get("Installed", defaultValue);
version= prefs.get("Version", defaultValue);
System.out.println("Installed "+InstalledDate+"\nVersion "+version);
prefs.flush();
}
catch (Exception E)
{
System.out.println(E);
}
}
}
I've checked with RegMon anyways.

Has there been any progress on this? I've been using azureus, except not truly portable (leaving registry changes, that kind of thing) for a while now and this would certainly be helpful...
DO NOT USE
Just tested this on Vista and it comes up as a Trojan Horse Agent KX
Not cool, hope most of these beta apps are not infected
If you're talking about my app then that was definitely a false postive.
I don't think it's a false positive: 12 different antivirus apps detected a virus in Azureus Portable. 12!!!! Twelve!!!
Here is the log of these --> 12 Antivirus | Version | Update | Result

Still think it's false positive?
Thank you Vamp1r, you really contributed to the development of free and open source malware apps!
...linked to in the first post with the ClamWin Portable software available on this website with a fresh signature update and got zero hits on the files in that zip file (no trojans/malware/virii noted).
Since no one can confirm that they're all using/scanning the same zip file since it could be changed easily, proceed with caution..."buyer beware".

Sorry, I can not accept credit for the creation of "open source malware apps". All I can say is there is nothing _in any way_ illegitimate about this program. It is completely open source, so you can see for yourself. I've been using this myself since I created it, and I run an extremely secure virus/spyware free system. Don't believe me? Don't download it. It'll save me bandwidth.
I can back him up that this application is indeed INFECTED.

The scan was incomplete.. But.. It shows that it's contaminated.
I see now why John gets agitated with these virus scanners sometimes. I just looked at my server logs and this file is downloaded about 200 times per day. It has also been posted for over 3 months now. So after roughly 18,000 downloads of a supposedly virus laden program, not one person has taken the time to post a comment like, "Hey don't download this program, it ruined my computer." I'm glad to see people using their virus scanners before recklessly downloading and runnings programs, but I'm telling you these are false positives.
have added a note for you

vamp1r did not create a virus laden app, many virus scanners detect certain components of ANY p2p and torrent download client as malware because most p2p and torrent programs monitor the system for media files or other files that can be shared through that program. While it is monitoring the system, it does not, in any way, infect the users computer with a virus, spyware or other malware
