I have a 70mb flash drive with Gaim, Firefox, Thunderbird, Filezilla Protable installed. I try to open them, and they appear with the Creative loading picture. Some even load command prompt shortly, but after that nothing loads. I can't get any of them to even appear. Ive tried reinstalling, reformating flashdrive and trying again, and still no luck any help?

If you see a command prompt, that means the app is corrupted. Usually, this is due to an issue with your drive itself.

probably didnt install portableapps right, das' my guess.

I am getting very frustrated and need immediate help!
Here is the story: I bought 16 1 gig SimpleTech Bonsi drives as graduation gifts. First I downloaded the full apps suite to my win xp pro sp2 desktop. Next I double click on the exe file and install to thumb drive. I try to open the menu and get any number of the following errors:
command prompt
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000005)
The applications appears to try and load then disappears
read/write memory issue
menu does not autoplay
Double click on the startportableapps - nothing happens
portable apps files will not delete - no the menu is not open
I have tried adding the apps one at a time. I have tried dragging the exe file to the drive and then load from the drive itself. I have reformatted the drives first as FAT32 and just fat.
I can load documents, open documents, pictures, etc to the drives and all works well. The portable appsuite however is driving me crazy. I called the simple tech and they say of course that it is a software issue.
I have tried everything. So I thought. I need help!
If the apps and everything work on your PC but not your drive. It's your drive.
And with a portable hard drive, it's usually because it's not getting enough power. So you need to plug it into the wall. Or plug in both USB connectors (for drives that have two to get enough power). Because your desktop isn't giving it enough power.

Are you suggesting I try a powered external USB hub? The apps/portable menu suite works when installed to my desktop. They also work off a cd-rom. They work on several different brands of drives (of various sizes), but not the SimpleTech drives. Could the problem be the brand?
I will give the powered USB a try and report back. If this is the case and the drives work with the powered USB hub I will probably send the drives back to the company as my students will most likely not want to go to all this trouble.
Okay here is what happened. I started by uploading the basic portable apps menu to a portable thumb drive via a powered USB hub. The drive was formatted as Fat32. It failed. I tried again this time as just Fat. It failed. I copied the exe file to the drive and followed the same procedure. It failed. I copied an unzipped file from the desktop to the drive. It failed.
Is this a SimpleTech issue? Has anyone successfully loaded a Bonzi 1gig SimpleTech drive with portable apps?
Help?
Installed on your computer but not on your drive, then the problem is with your drive or your USB ports. No ifs ands or buts.

At this point I believe it is the brand of drives! I have tried multiple computers. The probability of the ports on a variety of different computers being bad would be slim. The portable menu suite loaded properly on three different brands of portable drives with no problem using the same computer(s). It has to be a brand issue. As I said earlier, I have 16 SimpleTech drives. I have tried all but two of them. They have all failed!
If I didn't love and depend on these apps I would have given up on this long ago. Keep up the good work. Let me know if anyone figures out how to make this brand of drives work. Thanks.
You can't format them as NTSF? Also get A-data or Corsair next time.
zzzzzzzzzz
You can format them as NTFS. First, go into the properties of the drive in my computer. Then select the hardware tab. Under the hardware tab select the drive and click properties. Then go to the "Policies" tab, and then just change it from optimize for quick removal to optimize for performance. When formating just choose NTFS instead of FAT or FAT32.
Now, if portable apps doesn't work with NTFS, that's a different story.
