Wow. JohnHaller.com

I check out your (his) site every once in a while, and when you click on this site it lame, there's usually about 70 people visiting the site. So, I click on it 10 minutes ago, it was like 30, click on it 2 minutes ago, it was 70, click on it now, it's 82, now it's 84, now it's 86. Wow, prime time, or is this just a glitch? Or does it even work at all?

Edit:88...It's going up by twos?
90.

Yea, it's gotta be something messed up there.

It's real

Yes, it's a real-time stat based on "sessions" which automatically end after 30 minutes of inactivity. So, essentially, what it means is that 90 different PCs looked at the site in the last 30 minutes from this exact moment.

It's much lower these days than when I used to host the portable apps on JohnHaller.com. It's been as high as 5 or 10,000 if I recall correctly when it was Slashdotted. These days, it's usually between 100 and 200.

I'll add one here

I may eventually post the same thing here on PortableApps.com but at the moment it messes with caching and puts extra load on the server. I have it available on the admin pages. So, at this moment, 6pm EDT, one of the slower times of the day, it says "There are currently 46 users and 1256 guests online."

That is.

A LOT. Of guests. I never thought there was that many people around here. I guess there COULD potentially be A LOT more postings in the forums with repeated questions.

Heavier other times

It's a lot heavier at the busier times of day. And it's getting busier each month. Hence the server upgrades and performance tweaking that's been taking up more of my time.

Lots of Lurkers

Actually, there are lots of lurkers in those 23k registered users. And that 23k number leaves out the people that signed up for an account and never logged into it.

Up and Down

It goes up and down as different groups of people hit the web in different parts of the world. And as things get blogged here and there. That's why it's handy to check my referrers log. Stuff I post there still gets blogged a lot. My Make Firefox Look Like Internet Explorer page just got Dugg a month ago.

And so.

It should. It's VERY cool and helpful. It's basicially IE, I don't see how anybody could tell the difference. It's funny, because after my brother got U3, I was just surfing the web about things like that, and somehow landed at PortableApps.com. And then the next day I found JohnHaller.com, had no idea it was related to you at the time. And I forget what it was, but the Make Firefox look like IE didn't work out properly, and then it was updated like a few days later. And then I discovered that both sites are yours.
