I find...

Google is much better than Yahoo.

It is simpler, better, faster (no fancy distractions and crap slowing you down). Google Search provides one piece of functionality, and does it well.

According to Siteadvisor

Yahoo! is the most dangerous search engine (that is a big name one)

Google is popular mostly

Google is popular mostly because of its unobtrusive ads. Yahoo puts up big distracting ads that often don't relate to the search.

just used to it..

really what i think it is with me is that i have just become so acustomed to yahoos stuff that i use it so much. plus i hate the "goooooooooooooooogle" thing, it gets confusing at times and frankly i think they could have gone with something a little better. and i have to use idiotexplorer a lot and for some reason the "gooooooooooooogle"thing seems to not work after a while.

Well, really..

If I could find another "non-popular" search engine that works really well (and if I could get unhooked from Google ), I would use it, mainly because Google, Yahoo, and others filter information for communist N. Korea and China (I think Cuba  too). I do know of one called AltaVista and it works okay, but most of the time I cheat and use Google .

Any smart search engine

Any smart search engine would filter because users can't access the sites anyway...

Knowing the difference....

What they are saying is that information is being filtered by google about the outside world, not about the communist regimes. The people who live in that part of the world are not able to get all the information we have access to because of these filters. The idea being, don't let them see freedom and they will never know they don't have it.
It's like the joke about the old woman sitting on the porch after having a 50th anniversary celebration. She looks up from her knitting and hits her husband on the side of the head. He naturally screams and looks over at her and says, "What was that for?" She replies, "Fifty years of bad sex."
He sits and thinks for a minute, reaches over and slaps her out of her rocker. Anger flashes in her face and she says, "What was THAT for?" He looks back at his newspaper and says, "For knowing the difference!"
In this situation, N. Korea and China are the husbands and they don't want their wives, the people, finding out how bad they have it. Hence the frustration, google and the others are aiding oppression.

Clean interface

is what makes google so popular i think. For the uk one gets a button box for searches. I tried a few search engines out about 3 years ago it was an interesting comparison. The Netscape one turned out some results the others didn't i recall.

I liked google the best and have stuck with it. Had to visit my doctor earlier this week; he turned to his computer to look something up, yes...he used google.

I use google out of habit - and for the convenience button for UK only search.

If the "got it!" was relating to the clean screen interface - i have to say that m.s.n. is good. Yet another bookmark! I am not a microsoft fan so i steer away from them but the search engine did find me a free TIFF viewer (multiple pages) so i owe you a thank you!

However, i still find Netscape surprisingly good at finding things that others don't when i'm hunting/searching. You may have converted someone from google - i'll give yahoo a go sometime - i always used to use them.

[search engine] isn't

[search engine] isn't preventing them from viewing anything. They could return results from blocked sites, but the ISP would block the attempt to access the site.

Search engines are not doing anything wrong.

My point is that when they

My point is that when they filter results, they are in turn supporting (in a way) communism. They are making it so those who live in communist countries can't know about the free world.

Read my post again. Search engines are doing no such thing. The ISPs in these countries are doing it, not the search engines.

B U T T H E Y A R E ! !

tecnicly speaking, the serch engnes are doing it, just by default, and i dont see how using filters for that kinda stuff in the states is supporting communism, because we just filter it so we dont get a bunch of junk, and if it is true that you can re-send your serch with all results included, then why cant the commies do so?

Okay, let me elaborate: Some

Okay, let me elaborate: Some search engines (i.e. Google) filter results for users in a communist country. They filter results so that the searcher cannot get results that tell them about the free world. Basically, Google is getting paid by the commies to prevent the people from knowing about the free world. The ISP's are not necessarily. Maybe someone who uses Yahoo ISP will automatically be filtered. That's what I know.

slight correction...

The search engines that are out there like MSN, Yahoo!, and Gogle are all MANDATED and not paid to filter the results for the people in those countries that set laws against looking at certain materials. The commy countries that have those laws also mandate that there ISP's also filter conente using firewall rules and DNS entries. They also block certain port usage to block certain types of services.\

The red countries do not pay the search engines to do jack. They graciously allow those companies to do business in there country as long as they follow the rules and laws of that country of which includes preventing content from being seen by there people. They don't block for use that we are aware of here in the west...

wow..... like i didnt know that. i never said that they got paid to do jack! i just said theat if we could re-submit our serces with all of the commie stuff, then why cant they? and since they can, i dont see how that is supporting communism.

My last post on this topic...

I think the issue at hand as to why people have said the answer to you but you have not been able to see it is that you are still to young to full wrap your mind around alternate points of view. Similar to how a 3y/o can not comprehend that Tom and Sarah are in a room. Tom has a penny and puts it in a safe place. Tom leaves and Sarah comes over and moves the penny to another location. When tom comes home where is the penny? The 3y/o not knowing that Tom doesn't know will say where Sarah moved it to. Ask the same scenario to a 4y/o and they will understand the concept of Tom not knowing where and will point to where Tom had placed the penny knowing that it is not there.

Now I am NOT calling you a 3 or a 4y/o... I simply state this as an example as to why you can't understand what is going on. By using these services even though they do not block Western access it is supporting Communism in a way as those same services that we rely on to not filter sites out due to laws governing what we see do exactly that to the people of Communistic countries.

Let us also look at North Korea for a second... Name me one person in NK that is not a govt or military person that has net access. Let ma help you on this one. There is not one person who has it. Why you ask? The Internet is blamed by the Govt of NK to be a corrupting influence on there country. They are brain washed into thinking that they won the Korean war and that they defeated the US and that they can do it again. If they have the internet and global news then they would know the difference. Same for TV's and radios. They can only pick up the govt broadcasts and nothing else.

In China almost everyone is on the net. China is smart in this matter as they are now a world power and growing technologically for allowing its people on the net. They still want to filter out things that will corrupt its people though and so they tell Google and Yahoo! and such to filter sites that they don't want there people to see. This is not a free Internet now and that is why supporting those sites and such are supporting the suppression of peoples around the world.

Do you understand now?

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you do or say will be exaggerated or mis-quoted and used against you.

But you're wrong.
Commie countries remove read permissions, search engines add the dot. No reason to return results from inaccessible sites. Search engines block nothing.

Okay, what he is saying is

Okay, what he is saying is that when China allowed everyone to use the internet, they basically said that the internet is completely free. The government has more important stuff to do than to monitor other people's internet browsing. So, China says that they will have Google and Yahoo to do it for them. Get it??

Here's why...

...Yahoo gives me tons of "404 - Page not Found" messages.

Hey, if I wanted error messages, I'd use the brain-dead "Internet Explorer" to surf pretty much anywhere (which is to say, I'd end up surfing NOwhere, natch...).

That said, better to use whatever other browser I'm using :: Cough, cough :: Opera :: Cough, cough :: to AVOID Yahoo like the plague...

Hope that helps answer yer query.
