I'd be grateful if someone could tell me how animated gifs are made and if it is possible to reduce their size. I've got one i want to use on a forum but it is a touch large.
I believe they are a series of small gifs somehow joined together and held in a sequence.
I'd just be grateful to know more and perhaps someone could explain or post some links. I've had a look but not found anything suitable so far.
thanks

It wasn't for this forum!
From Wikipedia:
The GIF89a feature of storing multiple images in one file, accompanied by control data, is used extensively on the web to produce simple animations.

The gif i've been looking at just has 8 frames (in XnView). Looking at each in turn i see how the movement is built up. I wondered if i might be able to adjust size and then save... but no. I can see that 'itsagif' or similar programs are needed for something large but was wondering if a few pages could be saved in gif without a programme. [Itsagif does speed algorithms and all sorts, quite complicated and beyond what i want to consider from what i could see on that link- darn't good fun though!!]. After all it's just the one i wanted to do - and out of interest know how an animated gif is achieved. Xnview allows one to go through each page, make changes but won't save together. Is there a way of saving each page and then joining together.
Found a couple of basic free apps to play with - thanks again.
