I have a problem with Wallpaper Swapper for U3 ... it doesn't do anything.
My U3 thumb drive reads as two drives: "F" for U3 and "G" for PortableApps. U3 is exclusively U3 executables while PortableApps holds everything... music, pictures, documents, and of course PA software.
The instructions for Wallpaper Swapper are simple: Put the bitmap file called "windows.bmp" in the Document folder of the root directory. I've tried it there and many other folders and given up.
Could the fact my "second" drive is called "PortableApps" be part of the problem?
Anyone know the solution?
i dont hink that it is portable apps. i have the same problem and i dont have portable apps on the same drive.

Wallpaper Swapper is an idiot program, or rather it does things in a robotic manner. While it is nice to have when it works, unfortunately it is dependant upon a specific file structure, (root):\Documents\wallpaper.bmp, and if that is not there, it cannot find the file and will do absolutely nothing. Make sure you've named the file wallpaper.bmp.
Also, this is not where you should be looking for help with a U3-only program that has no connection to this site. Granted many of us have experience with U3, but pretty much all of us HATE it. If you haven't been duped into buying software for the proprietary U3 system, I'd just uninstall U3 and use PAM instead. BGear in mind this comes from a U3 user (yes, I got duped and in order to use the software I paid for I have to keep the stupid thing)
It'd be nice if there were a PAM version of Wallpaper Swapper though...

I'm using it right now. It's part of what I'm putting together for beta release this week. But I can't seem to shake this ear infection so I'm a bit behind.

Why do you always have some kind of illness having you in its claws before a release?

A friend of mine had an ear infection a while ago and it was pretty bad.

So are you an EX-Marine or a Marine not currently on active duty?
My brother was also in the marines, he was offended when I said he is an ex-marine.

Must be the pressure he is under before a very anticipated release. After all, how many times a day do you read something like "Hey John, when is the new version coming?".

and he posts a reply faster than you can move to another topic! Out of curiosity, is this going to be a new version of PAM or a standalone program? Just a moment ago, I mentioned something like this would be a nice addition to PAM itself...

John:Is the wallpaper swapper one you made or the one I made?
Nobody should start to undertake a large project. You start with a small _trivial_ project, and you should never expect it to get large. If you do, you'll just overdesign and generally think it is more important than it likely is at that stage. Or worse,
It's my own design.

do you have it similar to mine or do you have support to pick your own image location and name out? Is it built in somewhere or a "behind the scenes" option?

It lets the user pick it. I went back and forth on it and it made more sense than forcing people to have, say, a wallpaper.bmp file in their Documents directory or something like that.

Yeah, it gives them more freedom, i just didn't have time to add support for that in yet...i guess i won't have to...it's just sad to have that code all written for nuthin' now :(...and even more useless to have 2 versions of a wallpaper swapper...and I just added a cool button too...(https://portableapps.com/node/4844) oh well...I'm working on a deleter for both icons and application folders, and I haven't heard that mentioned in the features...What else you got that I might need to know and not duplicate?

Hope your feeling better.
I'm actually just waiting on PAM for the theme updates.
I have literally dozens of pictures on hold for theme creation waiting to see what is changing.
