I WAS DOING AN UPDATE ON PORTABLE THUNDERBIRD FROM VERSION 1.1.1.4 I BELIEVE BUT IT FAILED. GOT A POPUP STATING "The application or DLL E:\PortableApps\Apps\PortableThunderbird\thunderbird\js3250.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." I STILL SEE MY MAIL PROFILES IN THE DATA FOLDER BUT CAN'T GET THUNDERBIRD TO LAUNCH. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Just reinstall a copy of Thunderbird Portable right over your existing one. It's like an in-place upgrade. Your data won't be touched.
If you let TB update itself, it probably ran out of space. When this happens, it won't generate an error, it will just corrupt itself. It's a known bug in both TB and FF.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the quick response! Is it okay to install the most current version? What do you mean by "right over your existing one"? When I tried to install the current version, TB portable started asking to create user accounts and didn't recognize any of my mail accounts. What is the step I am missing?

redownloading and reinstalling Thunderbird Portable (your settings will be preserved). All I found is that some trojan deleted the file and now Thunderbird Portable cant find it.
So maybe it's a good idea to run a virus scanner afterwards.
