Is Flash strictly a proprietary format,or are there any Open Source editors available? (that might be portable :D)

I believe there is an open source editor called Flash Develop, though I have not ever been able to find a good tutorial to get started in Flash that doesn't use a proprietary editor and Flash Develop doesn't/didn't have much documentation last I checked. An alternative to flash, OpenLaszlo is available and can do pretty much everything that can be done in flash. It is open source and can run flash or without flash as dhtml (I think). Anyway, worth looking into, and very interesting.
