looking for security software

Please don't yell at me. I have searched the forum and read just about everything that I've found but I've yet to really see an answer for my question.

I am just a tad paranoid when it comes to my thumbdrive and portable storage even more so with the increasing size of them. I use and live by TrueCrypt at home but I can't use it at work due to not having admin rights. Does anyone know of any encryption software that works like TrueCrypt without having admin rights? I'd like to be able to place everything in an encrypted file including all of the portable apps and run them from there.

Any ideas.

Nah, all of the encryption software

I know requires admin rights, try Toucan (formerly known as PUSS) It only supports on-demand de/encryption

A good thing about it is that it is light weight and can alos do backups, portable variables, and syncronization! So with Toucan you will have much more power on your thumbdrive than before!

portable security

I bought Dekart Private Disk after using the trial -- can be used fully portably and encrypts a whole virtual volume. I honestly don't know how to evaluate its security claims. It uses AES256, but implementation really counts. www.dekart.com. It's commercial, but I know of no freeware/open source volume encryption that doesn't require admin rights. Would love to hear of one.

I wish someone would do a GPG Disk equivalent of PGP Desktop's volume encryption. Meanwhile you can use GPG portably to encrypt and decrypt files or folders. This is certainly the most secure solution available, especially if you keep your private key on separate physical media. I have it set up and it works very well. Can't lay my hands right now on the instructions for setting it up, but it's surely Google'able. There's a Windows front end called WinPT that makes it easier, but I believe it leaves traces. Using GPG in DOS with batch files leaves no trace at all.

Very serious security would require careful wiping of unencrypted files and high confidence in the machine on which you use your thumb drive. It all depends on your threat model. People who want a lot more on this can check the very helpful PGP-Basics group on Yahoo.
