I've been using my version of Audacity Portable on the same machine the last couple of days, and everytime I start it, it comes up with the "Audacity First Run" window where I specify the language. Also, when I go to export to MP3 format, I have to tell it again where the .dll file is. Any ideas?
I'm using a computer with Vista Business on it, if that matters.

It's an issue with Vista's registry hive import. It happens differently than every other version of Windows (thanks for mucking things up *AGAIN* Microsoft). Are you an admin, limited or guest user on the machine? I'm going to have to get some time to try and reproduce it and test the fix to ensure it works right.
It'll get fixed in the near future. It hasn't been fully addressed yet as hardly anyone is running Vista and it's most certainly not recommended for production use yet.

I am an admin user... it doesn't give me that annoying popup "If you started this action...." where it greys out the screen, so it's probably not writing to anyplace sensitive.
For most people I wouldn't recommend moving to Vista yet; but this machine has twice as much RAM and a faster processor than my other one so I wanted to see how it would do. The actual use of the program is fine; it's just the annoying startup stuff that concerned me.
I'm actually using the PortableApps Suite because the U3 device I bought last year apparently isn't upgradeable to be used with Vista. Sigh.

Admin, hmm. That should work then. I'll post a test build of the fix later today or early tomorrow for you to try out.
