I just downloaded the Thunderbird Release Candidate and today. And this didn't happen on my old version, at the botton of thunderbird, in an ugly red font is this:

This didn't happen in my old version, is this anything to do with the release candidate version? I don't know whether this has been mentioned or not.

If you upgraded an existing install, you need to manually delete files. Look again at the TBP 2.0 RC1 page.
