hi, i'm enjoying the features of ff, but there are some sites where i'm asked to ad plug in and this operation require administrator's privileges. what should i do to ad the plug in on my portable. on the site www.english-at-home.com it's impossible to browse on english live, what's the matter with configuration. thanks a lot for yr help. harys
requires admin privs and you don't have them, you can't install it. That's the plugin itself talking and portable or not, FF can't do anything about it.
Remember, most plugins aren't just within FF. They install a stub within FF but install a whole software package elsewhere on the hard drive. As such, most plugins are not portable.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Would it work to take the usb drive to another computer where you do have administrator privileges, (or at least get a friend to login as administrator on their computer & let you use it a few minutes) then install the plugin on the usb drive, then take it bake to the original computer & use it with plugin?
They say the only dumb questions are the ones that aren't asked and sometimes I'm amazed at what will work.
It's probably a full local install. As mentioned elsewhere, most plugins are two parts... the full local install of an application (like Quicktime, Realplayer, etc) and a small connector plugin that allows Firefox to communicate with it. The plugin is portable. The app is not. Without both, a plugin like Quicktime or Realplayer will not work.
