MediaCoder

MediaCoder, a free, open-source media conversion utility, has a tutorial on how to make it portable. On launch, it opens a browser, which would keep it from being portable(history). For some reason they ask to place a Firefox install in the folder... since its open-source, could someone design a PAF-compliant package of MediaCoder (w/whatever elements it asks for, i.e. Firefox)?

It is illegal to redistibute

It is illegal to redistibute a modified firefox package without permission.

not problems, solutions ;)

You could do it like iceweasel then. Just compile firefox yourself without their copyright protected stuff and all can be happy.

If you don`t like his request, tell him this app is not worth to make portable, it`s to much work or just don`t answer. But those legal statements are just an excuse and excuses are not really needed in this case.

wait...

So tell me, MISIIM, how is it that John can host Firefox Portable? It doesn't need a modified build, just a build.

So why not...

just use code from FFP to make a MediaCoder launcher that uses Firefox and keeps it portable? (Why exactly can't FFP be used, again? MediaCoder prob. just looks in folder "Firefox" for "Firefox.exe" to execute... maybe just renaming FFP exe to firefox.exe will alllow it to work...)

It asks for a copy of

It asks for a copy of firefox because until you open the program and change its settings to do otherwise, it will open a browser page each time you open the app and try to force you to download the latest test version

Actually

Actually...
It uses firefox but it has to be installed on a computer already. So it's not really modifying anything that belongs to Mozilla just using stuff. And Just like ZGitRDun says there is an option to stop that from happening

paradigm shift?

Is there any way to package the launcher so it writes the appropriate ini string to not require the browser?

I mean, if it is an option, there should be a way to package it so that the "no look" setting is already set.
