Firefox default homepage

Hi all,

I've searched the forums and google for this one and I'm not sure what's going on. I just installed 2.0.0.3 and when I start Firefox portable, the default homepage is "start.com" I've changed this in "tools/options", reset to the default, and even set options to a blank page. I still get start.com. I also have Firefox ver 1.5.0.11 (u3 edition)and it does not have this problem.

Can anyone help me on this?

TIA.

Mike

Try

setting "tools->options->main->when FF starts" to "my homepage".
Then it should display the homepage you specified.

Perhaps i wasn't clear in my first post, but I tried all posiible combinations in the tools options, main. This is really driving me crazy.

This is strange, if i click the "home" icon, I link to the firefox start page.
This start.com only links when I execute firefox portable 2.0

INI

Most likely, you have a FirefoxPortable.ini file with something in the LocalHomepage= field. When the browser encounters a malformed version of this, you wind up at the default start page.

John

I looked in the FirefoxPortable.ini file thinking I could "force" the start page.
The ini file I see is in FirefoxPortable/Other/FirefoxPortableSource. Initally the localhomage field was blank. I copy/pasted the firefox startpage link into that field, but I have not moved the file.

*****UPDATE*******
John,

This has something to do with that fact that I created a Manifest.u3i file and manually placed a link into the U3 menu. For whatever reason this cause PFF to ignore the settings for start homepage. If I start manually, the programs works fine.

I hope this U3 stuff isn't a sore spot, but if you have any insight on this, let me know.

Thanks for your reply

Mike

Manifest Issue

The problem is your manifest. It's passing a command line parameter to FirefoxPortable.exe. Which is passing it to Firefox.exe. But you're on your own to figure out the proper format. You're welcome to use the non-U3 portable apps with U3's proprietary menu... it's just not supported.

Thanks

Thanks for your input. do you think placing the FirefoxPortable.ini file in with the exe would override any command line call the manifest is doing? I could use a dummy html file for a start page.

Just a thought.

Honestly, the only reason I went to 2.0 is that FF 1.5.0.11 will no longer be supported.

Thanks again.

Nope

The issue is with your manifest. Doesn't matter what you do with the INI it'll still mess it up.

U3 Shortcut Creator

Try using SmithTech's Shortcut Creator 4U3. I haven't personally tried it, but have heard nothing but good things about it.

Remove "start" from Manifest.u3i?

I followed the guidelines in http://www.elitenews.org/2006/05/installing-programs-on-u3-smart-drive.html, and I had the same problem. Then I removed the "start" option before /appStart (see section 5). The start page now works as defined in the Firefox options.
