Is there any way to make the Portable Apps look better on a wide-screen laptop soit lines up in the corner.

there is the 1.0.1 patch right on the suite page.
Apply it and you'll be fine.

This is the 120dpi issue. Many newer laptops use 120dpi despite the fact that many apps (even MS apps like MSN) don't support it properly. This was fixed in the 1.0.2 Beta release mentioned on the Suite page.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
