TeamViewer Remote Support

Hi,

We are the developers of TeamViewer (www.teamviewer.com), a tool for instant remote control and remote support of computers over the Internet.
TeamViewer is fully free for non-commercial users, and it would be possible to make it portable in the sense that is meant here, so e.g. that TeamViewer leaves no traces in registry.

We also offer commercial versions that are very often used by our customers from a USB stick etc., for example to contact their home pc while they are travelling or are at remote locations.

So in our opinion it would make sense to host a portable version of TeamViewer here, because I think there are no remote tools in the PortableApps Suite yet.

Would you be interested in TeamViewer here?

If I'm completely wrong with this request here, please don't consider this posting as spam, it was meant as an offer and we might also give (free) support on integrating TeamViewer into the PortableApps Suite.

Regards,

Tilo

Contact Me

Tilo,

Drop me a line via email to the contact address (you may have before and I'd missed it). We're about to introduce the ability for both freeware and commercial apps to be in PortableApps.com Format so they'll work with the PortableApps.com Platform.

Regards,
John

Mail received?

John,

I tried to contact you on the requested mail address 2 times, but it seems you didn't get my mails?
Do I have another option?

Thanks,

Tilo

BTW: We now also have a download package of TeamViewer for use on U3 sticks - which comes quite close to what you do here.

Great News

This is great news... Team Viewer is a great product. I use it for all the remote support I do. As it stands right now, you can run it without installing it, but it would be great to see it go fully portable.

TeamViewer is ready for PortableApps

As we at TeamViewer receive a quite frequent stream of request for offering a PortableApps compatible TeamViewer we finally made it.

The only difficulty seems to be publishing the download on the PortableApps page as I can´t get trough to John.

Is there a possibility to insert the links to the executables (we have them in a couple of languages) here in this thread? Anyone interested?

As far as I know, the PortableApps.com freeware/commercial servers are not ready yet, and as such, we can't really link to closed source packages. John should be a bit more responsive now that the upgraded PortableApps.com Platform has been released. He'll want to double check the PortableApps.com format of your package. Freeware/commercial support/linking should be coming soon though.

TeamViewer

I´m curious about the TeamViewer Portable Version as it seems to be only with costs (see http://www.teamviewer.com/licensing/index.aspx)

If you have a FREE version for the stick don´t keep us in suspense and send the link.

TeamViewer without costs as PortableApp

Will it truly be FREE for personal use? I only ask because I have a U3 drive also that I downloaded TeamViewer to from the U3 download site and I can't get it to work because it keeps taking me to the site where I have to pay for a license. I use TeamViewer at home and it is a GREAT product. My family loves the fact that I can help them with computer problems and transfer pictures to them with ease. I would love the ability to do that when I am on the road as well.

Some Changes

I was messing around with this and I found some things that should be changed in order for this to be truely PortableApps compliant.

1. In the help file (help.html) the title of the page is WinDirStat Portable and it should be TeamViewer Remote Portable, also the first link (Learn More about TeamViewer...) links to http://windirstat.info

2. The app stores its settings in TeamViewer.ini This should be placed in ../TeamViewerPortable/Data/settings/ when the program is not open. Basically the ini file should be backed up to the Data/settings/ folder whenever the program is closed. This is so the settings will be backed up when people use the PortableApps Menu backup function.

3. The ini file should initially be placed in ../TeamViewerPortable/App/DefaultData/settings/ on install. When the program is first run the ini file should be copied into the program folder so the program can access the settings from the ini. When the program is closed the settings should be backed up to ../TeamViewerPortable/Data/settings/

4. TeamViewerPortable.exe should be running the entire time TeamViewer.exe is running so that when TeamViewer.exe exits, the ini file can be placed in the proper location.

Look at the Sumatra PDF Portable launcher for how to accomplish this (https://portableapps.com/apps/office/sumatra_pdf_portable)

Nice to see portable support

Nice to see portable support for a great product!

I should mention that I've been using the normal portable version, and it's nice to be able to export settings and have them imported as well via 'tv.ini'. Consider adding suport for this to the portable package.

Some more changes

Hopefully this thread is being checked occasionally, because I found a couple of things that should be fixed/changed.

1. The launcher needs to be updated so that the splash screen can be disabled. There is currently a line in TeamViewer3Portable.ini, but the launcher doesn't read it so it is useless.

2. The launcher copies TeamViewer.ini to ../TeamViewer3Portable when it should be copied to ../TeamViewer3Portable/App/TeamViewer. This is just a minor thing.

3. Allow for the program name to be changed. This can be done through the Launcher and the ini. Look at some of the newer program launchers for that.

4. Finally, a change to the program itself. I think there should be the option to minimize the program to the system tray. This doesn't have to be the default behavior, but it would be a nice option to have.

5. Also, don't forget to update the launcher and installer to the latest PortableApps.com version.

EDIT: After some digging, I also found that this program creates a registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TeamViewer3. It would be much better if these settings were stored at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TeamViewer3 or in an ini file. If the settings are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, this means that the user needs admin privileges to backup and restore the reg entries, which is not always the case. It is important that the launcher takes care of this registry entry, so the settings are kept on the usb drive and not left on the computer.

Changes in TeamViewer

Devo,
I appreciate that you dedicated some time for providing us the latest change requests.

We fixed the first 4 points which you mentioned above and I also forwarded the latest requirements to one of our technicians. I will keep you posted on that!

Only a few people will see the download links of the TeamViewer PortableApps version, though, as they have to parse our whole conversation to the end in the forum (and search explicitly for TeamViewer). Therefore I would like to ask what the chances are to list TeamViewer under "Applications" when it will be compiant to your regulations?

I hope for your understanding if I say that only to appear somewhere at the bottom of a page with the new adapted version doesn´t really justify our efforts.

Thanks,
Constantin

TeamViewer is not OpenSource,

TeamViewer is not OpenSource, so can't be listed in the Applications section of this website. But there's nothing to prevent you from hosting the portable version on TV's site, and advertise it as PortableApps compatible. You could even link to the forum post if you wish. There are other software projects that do so, such as Daphne - http://www.drk.com.ar/daphne.php

TeamViewer as PortableApp

Many thanks for your explanation wraithdu.

That's a pitty that you only list OpenSource projects. PortableApps is a great standard you close the door for many developers by that. Maybe it's a philosophy thing Wink

In any case we are at stand-by if you should change your opinion...

All the best,
Constantin

It's been discussed before.

It's been discussed before. Basically the PortableApps project itself is OpenSource. In order to host the project on SourceForge, it can only deal in OpenSource software.

There has been talk of new licenses and servers to handle the Freeware market, but I don't know what the status of all that is.

I found that if you install

I found that if you install Teamviewer 4 from PortableApps, download the portable version of TeamViewer 5 on the original site, and decompress it on X:\PortableApps\TeamViewerPortable\App\teamviewer, it works just fine. Until the team upgrades the suite, it's what i've been using.
