I've got this fixed

Thanks for the info. The drive was the only part I was dynamically calculating before because I was unsure of some stuff in Vista (which I don't own).

Now I think I've got a pretty fullproof system for calculating the Send To folder. One issue was that the registry key may or may not use a special system variable for the user profile folder. Another issue was that there were many programs out there that would allow you to move the system folders on your system and that would add the entry to a different key in the registry. So now Convey Portable will try to use both of those reg keys first and only if it finds no entries will it calculate the old way.

Let me know if it works for you now, Dijaboro.

New version 9.1 released up top with this fix and a couple of other minor changes.

Think it time for a new thread.

This thread has gone from ver .6 to .9b and is getting rather long.
Maybe a new thread is due like most of the apps here where a new thread is started for each version release.

I think you should describe a bit more about the app in the original post, just to grab a little more interest. Because I don't think a lot of people realize you can use this to actually send a file to "Open With" a program using the Send To manager.

I agree

With both of you, Patience and SmithTech- For the next version I'll start a new thread with a much better description. The next version will have a little more eyecandy so it will be a good release to do that.

Installation.

I think you should have a more east method to "installing" the program.

I have two ideas.

The folder that current has the .exe, help, and source, make a new folder called "ConveyPortable" and put those three parts in it, so when you open the folder, you can easily click "Extract all files" and it will extract the whole folder to the desired location.

Option two.

Use a 7-Zip self-extractor.

I got a chance to play with this a little more. I was wondering, is there a way that you could make Sending To a directory a MoveTo, instead of just sending a copy?

After...

I am trying to get the last few things on my list (a little more customization, improved settings dialog, and a better help file) finished.

Once I get to version 1.0 (or mighty close), then I want to start making ConveyPortable Add-Ons (Conveyables?).

The ones I have in mind right now are:

  1. Send to Any Folder
  2. Move to Any Folder
  3. Copy filenames to clipboard.
  4. Send to Quick Launch
  5. Send to Run
  6. Send to Prompt (this would work for a folder or a file)

Wow.

Yes, this does keep gettings better and better, and when I first used it, I didn't see how it could get any better. But all the add-ons and their options sound fantastic!

Nice.

I like the call on the SourceCode as a seperate download, as well as the WinRar self-extractor, it's a nice one.

Settings over-writen

I cannot but add my dose of kudos to you for this great work.

But I also have a slight bug report to make (well, I think it is, but I didn't really look much into it): I had set the Prepend to all to "_" at home. Now I'm using the same USB drive at work. I used the new self-extractor to install the new version (without launching the old one first). And now the "_" prefix is gone. I'm not sure if it got over-writen by the new installation, or if it got stored in my home computer or not at all or what...

So now I have to enter my settings again. I'm going to have to type the "_" all over again. Hell! It's going to take all day! Smile

Great app!

I actuallu.

Already thought about that, and thought about suggesting it, but really, it's not all the pointful, though it might be a nice idea...

You'll be writing a simple launcher for an app that is already portable.
The splash screen in my personal opinion wouldn't be a good idea because you're not really launching anything because the app is so simple, you're just clicking a button and it's done its work.

And other stuff like that, personally. I don't think it's nessecary.

You'll be making a simple portable program harder. Because you'de have to have an ini, and put the links folder under data in order for the app to be in paf, and the name is already called "Convey Portable" like I said, it's make the app bigger too. I think it's best use would be integrated into the PAM.

But...

But by making it paf compatible and putting the Links folder in the Data folder, wouldn't it make it simple to restore your links if anything happened to them? That is assuming you use the PortableApps Backup.

Yes.

That's true. Good thought.

I have shortcut links after

**** EDIT*****I have shortcut links after Convey has closed (Probably due to an incorrect pen removal) Whe I connect again I then get duplicates. How can I remove these residual links please? Is there an option in Convey to restore defaults?*****

Never mind found them in the send to profile for my user account - Sorted
