I've posted a pre-release of Sumatra PDF Portable 0.6. This updates to the new 0.6 release and uses a new launcher that retains and updates your most recently used file list. It also uses one of the new installers that I'm testing with Thunderbird, etc. Please give it a try and post your comments.
Download Sumatra PDF Portable 0.6 Pre-Release 3
UPDATE PR3: I've refined a couple more things within the installer. It should now correctly detect removable drives that incorrectly show up as floppy drives on some systems without polling an existing floppy drive and slowing down installer startup. It also won't warn you to close the menu but will warn you to close Sumatra PDF Portable if it detects you're doing an upgrade and it's running. Please try these new features out.
I'll give it a shot. I like the recent files idea.

As usual, nothing wrong and works great!

Installer worked fine. Program launches so fast that it's up before the Portable Apps splash screen is gone.
First time I ever tried this app and it doesn't render one of my PDFs correctly (I know you don't control that John).

There are two rendering engine built in. The default is faster but has some minor issues with some PDFs.

The View --> MuPDF option, I tried unchecking it to use the other engine and it displayed the same.
Oh well, thanx for the point out though. The problem is with a PDF I have to print out to put in the car for insurance verification. No big whoop...not like I'm going to need to view that doc with a portable PDF viewer.

New icon eh? For both icons? Is there any reason why he changed if? Do you know John?

I've updated to PR2. This uses an updated installer with new features. See the details in the original post now.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Pre-existing install.
2. with a portableapps device in with the menu closed OK
3. with a portableapps device in with the menu open (but launched directly)OK (It did not tell me to close the menu)
4. with a portableapps device in launching the installer from the menu OK
And check it with an in-place upgrade and without just to be certain (they're handled differently in the case of #3)

You sure you have PortableAppsMenu.exe running and sitting in the system tray? And then you're running the installer directly (not clicking Options - Install New App in the menu)?
Side note: This whole process only works if you're using X:\PortableApps as your installed directory. Nothing else is supported.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Installing directly from .exe with PAM open and to the :\PortableApps directory.
It warned in the opening screen to not have Sumatra Portable open but not PAM. Made an .avi camstudio shot but cannot upload it to my server too big. (10mb)

Was it a 'found' directory... or one you manually selected yourself?

I substitute my E:\ drive with T:\. I ran it from E:\ but it asked if I wanted to install it on T:\PortableApps\Sumatra....

That means your drive wasn't detected. The installer parses all HDDs attached to the system. In NSIS terms, each connected drive is one of these:
FDD Floppy Disk Drives
HDD Hard Disk Drives
CDROM CD-ROM Drives
NET Network Drives
RAM RAM Disk Drives
Removable drives like USB flash drives show up as HDDs to it. And if you have one attached with a PortableApps directory in the root, it should detect it.

Is that the same reason my autorun.ini does not work?
No flash drives autorun on my laptop.
No big yank. It installed just fine in spite of the menu still running.
I was just reporting back on the testing you asked for.

It's not being recognized as the right type of drive. Odd.
I think I'll rejigger the installer a bit to check for this.
In the meantime, try this Drive Types Tester on your system with your drive in and let me know what it comes back as.

It worked fine with me. It said to close the menu and click ok, but I clicked ok without closing the menu and it still installed.

It won't upgrade the SumatraPortable.exe launcher. So you won't get any of the new functionality (settings saved, multiple launches, recently used files).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Well, I had the old version with the old icon. I refreshed the app icons on PAM and it is now the new icon, which in my mind means that it's the new launcher. The version of the launcher is 1.3.6.0 created 4/30/07 at 14:58.
EDIT: If you are talking about the "lock" that PAM has on the folders, it's just the folders, I can still delete everything in there, just not the main (parent) folder.

All 4 options worked without any problems but
It didn't ask me to close my menu in option 3 (menu running but launched directly), but it automatically updated the icon in the menu.
And the new installer leaves stuff in the prefetch folder and in the temporary internet folders (Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat and Lokale Einstellungen\Verlauf\History.IE5\index.dat)which the old one didnt.
But I don't think there is anything to avoid that.
And the new SumatraPDF works without any trouble, too, but I think I keep a copy of the old one cause it prints "unprintable" PDFs.

Can't reproduce the IE changes.
Of course it leaves something in prefetch. EVERY exe you run from a local drive does. Even the old 7-zip based launchers do. There's no way around that.

I've refined a couple more things within the installer. Please try these new features out both from the menu and standalone.

OK.
Detects Sumatra and asks to close both directly from .exe and .paf.exe in the menu. It did not ask to close the menu when I installed directly from .exe.
BTW - by drive is also a FDD at work just as my laptop, but my autorun.ini does function at work.
Side note- Is my flash detected as a floppy drive because I have set the PC to "optimize for performance" with USB drives?

It no longer asks to close the menu since it's actually unnecessary. Just closing Sumatra PDF Portable so it can be upgraded.
I think it shows up as FDD due to the way the firmware on the drive is written. I only have one old generic drive that does that... and only when you flip a switch on its side to set it in FDD mode.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
installed from the menu, warned me to close sumatra, but not the menu. Worked perfectly after install
warned me to close Sumatra and auto-detected the right folder on my USB (I run the exe directly from my Desktop).
I LOVE the autodetect-thing.
