Hello all,
What are your favorite brand(s) of flash drives? What's worked very well for you, and for what purposes are you using them?
I've purchased a few flash drives in the past few months. Most of them I'm using for backing up important files and data from both of my computers. I've got my PortableApps suite running on a PQI 1 GB flash drive. I really like it so far. I am just curious about what flash drives have worked well for you. Thanks!
Well, after you uninstall U3 (piece of crap software that it is) it has served me well. I like that it has a retractable USB connector so I can't bend it (2 flash drives broken that way).
Just advice though, do NOT buy a PNY Attach'e, I severely dislike them due to poor construction quality.

I would say the Titanium version would be even better because of the case. I had a 512mb SanDisk Cruzer Micro that fried itself after about 5 months. I uninstalled the U3 on a 2gb SanDisk Cruzer Micro and so far for the last three months it has been fine. Just picked up a Toshiba 1GB from Office Max for 14.99. I plan to use it for backups of data and documents until the SanDisk dies.

I bought mine August 30th 2006.
5 months...:hey! I need some time doing the math...:
Today is the 12th.................
So I have 18 days left....
And maybe its a good idea to do my backups more often....
 just kidding

I use a TecheLabs 1 GB and a Kingston 1 GB for portable apps. The TecheLabs drive came from South Koreo, I didn't realize that when I ordered it off Amazon.
What is U3? I hear the term often but I have never seen or used it. Just curious. I never heard anything good about it.
here I think that this is it. General consensus is it will total your drive. Try searching it here.

Had a 128 MB Apacer for three years now. Never failed me. Good balance of performance and speed.
EDIT: It just died .

None taken . Seriously, if they weren't so expensive, I would buy another (I'm going to buy a Kingston).

Data Traveller 2 Gig.
My first, it's pretty quick, but not always quick to start on insertion, I think I may go for a SanDisc next time...
Other than that, was it good? I'm thinking about getting a Kingston 1GB.

Is there a brand that does not come with U3 stuff?
?...?...? There's only a few brands that support and have U3 installed, like SanDisk, or Kingston, or Memorex, but al those drives are also availible relularely. Plus, there's TONS more brands out there.
If you find a drive you like you can uninstall the U3 without harming the drive at all. You will find that U3 drives are generally more $ though>

Kingston works fine for me. No problem with their drive. And Sandisk is great.

^ So you're saying it's the U3 Launchpad that heats the drive up? Cause when it's plugged in, it gets warm.. Really warm. o.o;
and lexar jumpdrive expression. good quality, lots of space. never really had a problem with thoes.
Zoop
my C.T.2. has u3 and it works fine. no heat or anything, and i am constantly using programs from it. i use yahoo widjets 24/7 with no prob.

I have an old edition (pre-U3) Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 512 MB drive. Has been running really well for a couple of years now. But its about to be...errr...replaced...with a 2.5" 120GB portable harddrive I'm making from a Welland ME-940J case.
I'm running it from a lexar secure 2- much better then the first secure.
I'm thinking about going over to a scandisk micro 2gb. I want to take the U3 luanchpad off.
While its posted, think it'll last along time?

hosed me with the software from that jumpdrive. i removed the security software from my expression drive and got the secure software from lexar but it locked the entire drive for three months untuill lexar made an unlocker prog for my drive. even thogh the software unlocked my drive, it took a chunk out of my memory from 256 megs to 232megs.

I always liked the product and the durability. Read the horror stories on their sites. The first drive they put out had a slight problem (the soldered leads would break, but fixed with a pair of pliers) but its fixed now. My instructor had one that he thought was cooked. I plugged it in and it ran fine.
Now I'm on a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2gb, with about 850 mb left over.
