I was wondering about Keepass 2.x. I know that generally you can get portability of a beta or alpha app by just replacing the guts of the app. I seem to remember reading here (maybe not here) that Keepass 2.x uses .NET framework. I could be mistaken. Any answers would be appreciated.

Keepass 2.x will NOT be portable. Nor will it work under Win9x. Nor will it work under Wine within *nix. It will only be an installable local app under XP/Vista. This is due to the use of .NET which kills all OS and physical portability.
1.0 will still be maintained and updated as, essentially, a separate app.

I know the .NET issue is a requirement, but does that really make it non-portable? All the machines I run portable apps on have .NET installed, so for me this is a non-issue.
I am not entirely sure how much more advanced 2.X is over 1.7 or whether the database can be opened by 1.7 after being opened by 2.X, but if that isnt an issue both could be installed on the usb stick for users choice (or for when .NET isnt installed).
I usually try things like this and replace them with your apps (if/when you make them).
It's not an issue for you with the specific machines you run. But chances of .NET being installed on a random school, library, net cafe or hotel business center PC are *VERY* low. So, it certainly can't be called portable.
It's gonna be XP/Vista only as well. And it won't work in Wine on Linux/Mac.

KeePass 1.0 is NOT BEING DISCONTINUED. It is being developed in parallel with 2.0. They were originally going to call them classic and pro (which I still think is better) after the uproar of requiring .NET.
