I'm working on a guide/FAQ for newbies. Hopefully that'll reduce the amount of questions we get.
A taste (may be revised later):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I) Introduction/FAQ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide is meant to answer many of the questions that often come from those
new to portable applications and external drives and reference for all who enjoy
using portable apps.
---------
* FAQ *
---------
Q. What does "portable" mean?
A. "Portable" in a broad sense means that whatever it is can be transported with
ease, and used almost anywhere. Portable apps are programs that are designed to
be carried around and used on different computers without requiring
administrative access or changing the settings on the host computer. This
essentially allows one to carry one's programs on an external drive and use them
as if they were being run on one's own computer, retaining one's own settings
for the program without disturbing another's setup, and without installing
anything to the host computer.
Good Idea!
Gonna let us help?
Anyway, WRT the 1st FAQ, what about https://portableapps.com/about/what_is_a_portable_app ?
Anyway, a good one would be something like:
----
Q. Is [insert app name here] portable?
A. Firstly, search the forums to ensure that no-one has posted about this before. Next, check the app's license. If the License's name is on the Open Source License List, you're in luck. Finally, post a topic on the Request Apps forum and wait for a reply.

Drupal has an FAQ module. Probably would fit better into the PA webstite.

Of course, silly!

'Twas a simple omitted hyphen. Fixed.
I used Notepad++ to write it too.

A few revisions, including another FAQ question and a changelog. The latest can always be found here:

All versions are in the folder, named by version:

(there will always be a duplicate since the latest will have 2 copies under two names)

Bahamut,
I have to ask that you remove some of your files. You currently have 4.3 Gb of files on the site and I am starting to run out of space due to new needs... Please look into this and remove 3gb of info...
Email me at madhatt (at) madhatt.com if you have any questions
When accessing your main directory.
Anyway, the reason why John doesn't like closed-source portable apps is because he has nowhere to host it, due to bandwidth issues and stuff. However, he is getting a server set up for them.

Is there any chance to format the text so it is actually red (like the post titles)???

Maybe this will help you (or John, or anybody else) at creating a FAQ page or updating the guidelines, specially this section.

Does anyone have a copy of the PAFAQ? I don't have any copies due to some unfortunate circumstances.

my only gripe with portable apps is that you need to click to the ap page then the download page (on sourceforge) then click to get your file.
Does anybody have a mirror with a copy of the aps in a direct click to download format??
If nobody does could somebody email me with a login and password combo and i will set up a mirror myself (somebody that can do the uploads)
How is that related?
SourceForge.net is great for hosting Open-Source apps, so John uses it, because it would be a too much on the server to host them right on this site, and then costs would be much, so why not use SourceForge save some money, and compensate the extra click. John has mentioned this before too. A log in and username? John Haller runs and maintains this site, and I believe he would have uploaded them on this site if he wanted too. So in closing, an extra click for SourceForge to save some moeny? Alright with me.
