Flash Plug-in not working

I've tried installing the flash plug-in without any luck. I followed the instructions, and when the download starts, I get the following message:

Firefox could not install the file at

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/xpi/current/flashplayer...

because: Download error
-228

Now what do I do?

Anyways, I am very happy for Portable apps, making my life somewhat easier, as I am travelling a lot...

Generally you save the xpi

Generally you save the xpi to the desktop (or somewhere else), open the addons window and drag it to there.

Kind of worked

Thanks for the help. I managed to download it without problems to the desktop, but when the installation started, I got the following error:

Firefox could not install the file at

file:///C:/Users/Anja/Desktop/flashplayer-win.xpi

because: Unexpected installation error

.

Some p*rn filtering programs (CyberSitter being the prime example) are known to randomly break files. Otherwise, if you have a bad internet connection, that may also break the download. If neither one is the case, then I refer the problem to someone who is more experienced than me. Smile

Problem solved

After rummaging around on the net I found this:
http://blog.acidlabs.org/2006/09/05/installing-flash-in-portable-firefox...

To make it short:

I unpacked the flashplayer-win.xpi file, and copied 2 files:

flashplayer.xpt, NPSWF32.dll

Placed them in (my usb-drive is F):

F:\Portable Apps\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\plugins

All depending on how and what you called/installed your portable firefox
Now, that wasnt difficult Wink

I just checked my flash drive and those files (flashplayer.xpt, NPSWF32.dll) are in here:

:\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins

they also seem to be in here:

:\FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\plugins

I tried playing a You Tube anim and it works fine.

do I have an unnecessary duplication of files?

They shouldnt be in Default Data

Normally, the DefaultData folder contains the default-profile-data which is copied to the /Data folder when you run it for the first time.
So there shouldn't be any plugins in there cause John isn't allowed to redistribute them. You can delete them or copy the to \FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins to make sure you have them.
