- klick on an *.XPI file on a webpage (extension installation starts automaticly). Normaly the link is called "install" or "installation and download" (look at the status bar, you will see ...*.xpi as file name!)
or
- first save XPI to harddisk (right klick - save as ..) and put it via drag&drop into firefox.
Fx only accepts extensions from addons.mozilla.org and updates.mozilla.org by default! Please check:
Options -> Content: Warn me when web sites try to install extensions or themes
Klick on "exceptions" to add more sites or disable the whole feature (not recommended). This procedure is needed everytime when you are trying to install extensions from third party sites!
So if I install an extension on Portable Firefox, it will be saved? There isn't anything else I have to do, just do what I would for my regular Firefox?
The only thing you need to be aware of is that even if you whitelist a non-mozilla site, you may still have to download it and then open it. This is due to a bug within FF with installing extensions when the cache is disabled. I was hoping it would be fixed for 1.5 but it missed.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Really? I always install directly in Portable FF. And I have not any problem so far. I also use the extensions auto-update feature (with no cache setting, of course)
You can create groups and add sites via right klick menu. js, popups allowed? Software installation? Just select the items and Fx automaticly adds sites to popup-blocker's exclusion list and/or to the extension whitelist.
I love this little extension. It works fine with NoScript, too. I NoScript was installed before, you have a group called "maonoscript" - js is enabled by default! It's just the NoScript whitelist.
Now you can easyily add sites to software whitelist.
I can't install an extension to PFF. It shows up in the extension manager, but says it will be installed/upgraded when Firefox is restarted. No matter how many times I restart, it stays the same. I had tried the copy from my HD profile, but one of the extensions causes PFF to hang in the start up, so I thought I'd just install directly one at a time. Is there a setting I'm missing? I've tried the enable cache as well, and I've tried both installing from the web as well as DL the file and install from my HD. Please help! I'm trying to avoid having to copy the extensions from my FF to PFF one a time until I find which is causing the hang. Thanks for your help. These apps have been a tremendous help for my traveling.
I'm getting the same message that the extensions will be installed after FF is restarted, as well as they will be removed after FF is restarted if I try to uninstall them. Any suggestions?

addons.mozilla.org works fine for some reason... but other sites are hit or miss, depending on the size of the extension.

Like I said, I can't get them to install after restart. I've tried installing from website, download->file open, and drag-drop.

Hmm I am working fine with DtA, IE Tab and AdBlock Plus, could it be something with your profile?
