U3 leaving tracks?

I was trying out my new U3 drive just experimenting here and there. It was fun. Then I just happened to make visible all hidden files and I found that my U3 drive was leaving weird folders and odd files all over my computer. Is this normal? Will it happen on other peoples computer if I use my U3 drive?

I am waiting for the next version of portable apps so I can delete this U3 starter. It makes me just feel so dirty.

U3 Always LeavesTraces

U3 has always left traces on every host PC it is run on. Generally it leaves an EXE and a couple other files in C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\U3. The platform itself does that. There are also several U3 apps that will leave files behind in the same location... some when closed by a drive removal, some all the time. I remember the last version of Maxthon I tested a few months back did that.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Isn't it odd that OSS

Isn't it odd that OSS consistently outperforms the competition - you would expect that OSS would be a poor mans version of the "real thing", but it just isn't...

That's because

we've got people here like Mr. Haller and Ryan here to clean up after us Wink

not that we're criminals ...

who want to leave 'no trace' but the folks here are doing the secondary part of the equation. Usually, someone else is making the program, while it's folks like John and Ryan et al who do the secondary part of making it truly portable.

If they had to do both parts, they may not be able to get to the fine nuances that all of us look for, to tune it and clean it.

So...

In other words, U3 is NOT portable? What a rip off. I could add the apps to the drive without U3.

Careful With Bumps

Please be careful with bumping in the future. Although it may have been unintentional, you just bumped a year old post for a comment that didn't provide much input.

Thanks.

Hey, wait a second.

U3 actually CLAIMS that nothing is left behind.

Imagine carrying your software on the same flash drive that carries your files. That’s what you can do with a U3 smart drive. You can plug it into any PC and work, play a game, message friends, send email, edit photos and more. A U3 smart drive makes any PC your own PC. And when you unplug it, it leaves no personal data behind.

Couldn't somebody take legal action against U3?

Personal Data

Depends on how they define personal data. Smile And tons of companies claim things that are untrue, be pretty hard to take legal action.

U3 isn't claiming that

U3 isn't claiming that NOTHING is left behind, just that personal data isn't left behind. So it's possible that MRU, MUI Cache, or Prefetch info will be left behind, and maybe even some other traces, just none of your personal data.

Well,

The menu and sudoku alone used up 21 Megabytes on my harddrive.

possibly the owner of the

possibly the owner of the computer that you are using doesn't want his system cluttered with random files and folders from somebody else's use of their PC. Some people use their apps in rather restricted environments.
