Dead get mail button

I found a thread on this, but no clear explanation other than delete and start again...

I can get my emails:

- when TB starts
- When I press ctrl-shift-t
- When I click on the individual account on the "Get Mail" drop down menu

but... nothing happens when I press "Get Mail" itself...

On a previous thread, 2 possibilites were mentionned: a corrupt profile or firewall blocking.

- My emails can be downloaded by any other means except by pressing the button itself, so no firewall problems.

- The individual profiles work OK, so I would not tend to believe that there is a problem on my profile.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Daniel

Hmmmkay....

Ok, thanks for the link. I understand... well, no I don't, as it's a dumb implementation: All the other buttons ("Print" included which runs the same way as the "Get Mail" button with a drop down menu) all do somthing when you press them, except "Get mail" which is an explicit enough button, but does nothing. It's inconcistant with the rest of the UI. Worse, I'm sure that there was a sort of "Get All" button earlier versions of TB...

Anyway, it's not a bug, it's a feature Smile

Cheers,
Daniel

I think it was the only way to put such a menu on the buttonbar.

I have a get mail all button

On the button, the one on the top left, which is the get mail button, it has the little triangle which lets me choose which ones to get, one of the options is also 'get all new message' line. You don't have that? I'm in tb 1.5.10

I think he has that

but he wants one button to press and all his mails are downloaded.
Its easier to press one button than to aim for the little triangle.

someone made an extension for that already

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4856, which is a button to get _all_ of the messages. I haven't tried this one.

Get Mail does what it's supposed to do

It gets the messages for your currently selected account. So, if you have, say 4 IMAP accounts setup and you're currently viewing a folder from one, it gets the messages for that account when you press the button. Remember, the tooltip for the button is Get Mail... not Get All New Messages.

There is currently no way to change the functionality of the Get Mail button.

To easily check all messages, you can hit CTRL-SHIFT-T, though.

And, please, for general TB questions, hit up mozillaZine.org, the official support forums for Mozilla apps. This forum is for questions specific to the portable release.

Re: Get Mail does what it's supposed to do

No it does not do anything... but from your explanations, it's a general TB issue and not specific to the portabelapps version.

I have used TB during it's 0.6 / 0.9 versions (years ago Wink ), and went back to outlook due to be able to syncronise with my PDA. At this time, I had 4 different accounts, as as far as I can remember, I could "Get" my "Mail" with one button.

As this is the first time since 0.9 that I have touched thunderbird, and the button did not do as logically advertised when compared to all the other buttons on the menu bar, I considered this to be a problem localised with this port, especially as this has already been mentioned on this forum in the past.

So, to sum up, no this is by design, and is TB-specific and not portableapps specific.

Thanks for your input everyone.

Cheers,
Daniel

It works for me

I haven't had any issues with the Get Mail button. Every time I hit it, it gets all of my messages for all of my accounts....both in 1.5.10 and 2.0RC1, both portable compilations.
