Portable MAME (Arcade Emulator)

Code Source Linkage: http://www.mame.net/downmain.html
=================================================================================

I'm not too sure if MAME is portable by nature (as it seems to use relative references for locations), but it would be a great emulator to make portable.

The link above includes the original program AS WELL AS THE SOURCE CODE for anybody who wants to make P-MAME (just my nick for a portable version of MAME).

Command line?

Since MAME stores most things (ROMs etc) in relative folders, I don't think it would be much of a problem. There might be some registry things for the windows MAME loader(s) though - e.g. AdvMAME.

I'd guess it was almost portable already, if not 100%.

MAME32 Link

The link in my above post was the command line only, with MAME makes by default. MAME32 (the Windows version that most people will probably want) can be obtained at http://mame32qa.classicgaming.gamespy.com/
(Fileplanet account required for downloading).

The link for MAME32 includes executable & source code links.

Supplemental: I'd prefer WolfMAME/32 (available at wolfmame.marpirc.net to become a portable, but I can't find the source code... probably because they don't want people cracking their anti-cheating measures.

Source code

A project does not need to be open source to make a portable version of it.

The majority of apps on this site have a starter application that has a general purpose of loading the settings onto your machine, running the application (unmodified), and then taking those settings back off your machine and onto your USB drive when you're finished.
