I use...

Remora USB Disk Guard, which despite its name only encrypts file and whole folders.

This works without admin rights and is good to encrypt folders with sensitive info. Unfortunately, it is cumbersome to have to do the whole disk with. very slow to decrypt.

Also unfortunately, not much has been found to do the whole disk that doesn't admin rights.

Truecrypt is something talked about on this site, but absolutely needs admin rights to work. ITtis a great prog, but not much use if you get on a pc with no admin rights.

Sorry it is not much of an answer, but it's all I got.

Portable encryption

7-zip works well for most uses where you need to protect files/directories. Just password project (use a good password), and it uses AES256. It does not, however, provide on the fly projection of the whole drive. TrueCrypt is not a perfect solution, but can provide good performance, on-the-fly disk or drive level encryption for Windows and Linux that is transparent to applications and there is an option for running it off a USB drive. It is FOSS as well. It uses AES, Two-Fish, Serpent, and combinations of the above.

With any of these encryption approaches, remember that PCs that you use the programs on will have unencrypted versions of whatever you open in their memory (which is mostly an issue if the computer is hibernated) and disk cache.

Try TrueCrypt

Freeware and platform independent.

You cans store an entire encrypted volume, and the TrueCrypt app. on your USB pen and run if from there:

Encryption in Partition

Hey,
I have a TwinMOS Mobile Disk X5, and this app was made for my drive, but it should work with any drive, though it might not like anything other than FAT32 (my drive).

http://www.twinmos.com/flash_download_md.htm
That's is just the downloads page, but this is the app that I'm suggesting:
http://www.twinmos.com/flash/download/ap_md_m3xu2xu4x_13apr07.zip

It is a format utility if you want to have a look, so big warning (!) IT WILL DELETE ALL YOUR FILES (!). You can do a complete backup if you get interested, or if you have a blank flash stick.

It creates an invisible partition that is encrypted. There will be an app on the root of the drive that unlocks the encrypted partition, while the unencrypted partition will be just on (for arguments sake) F:/ along with the "UNLOCK.exe". When you put in your password and click "Unlock" it minimises to the lower-right-hand corner near the volume control. When the drive is unlocked, the unencrypted partition (including the UNLOCK.exe) will be invisible. I don't know what would happen if you installed portable apps under the uncrypted partition, but I would guess it wouldn't autorun. I also don't know what would happen if you pulled out your drive while it's unlocked.

That's all, so bye. Hope someone gets a use out of my X5! (kidding)
