I like your arguments for this type of software and nice use of wxWidgets, my favorite cross-platform GUI code.
I haven't downloaded and tried this yet or used TrueCrypt on my thumbdrive, but I may give it a go now...thanx!
Edit: For those that don't have a CodeProject login already (like me) is there a way to upload the compiled code to a public website so the PA users that want to try it don't have to create logins on the CodeProject site just to get this code? I can mirror the code on my public webserver if you'd like and post the link in this thread (I have unlimited bandwidth, but I'm ratelimited to 2Mbit/s).
Also, if you use UPX on your executable to compress it, the size shrinks from 2.6MB down to 713KB (which helps out with space saving on thumb drives). UPX switches I used are:
Cancer Survivors -- Remember the fight, celebrate the victory!
Help control the rugrat population -- have yourself spayed or neutered!
Can you send it to me (cubegames[at]gmail.com)?
I'll put it up on my site.

Updated TCExplorer to v1.2.

Awesome. I downloaded it the first day you posted here. Thanks a million for making the GUI and for bringing the subject up!
Wanna post it on www.portablefreeware.com too? If not, I can if you allow me.
TCExplorer is public domain. You can post it anywhere you like
Thanks. Done.

Ta da. TCExplorer was accepted by PortableFreeware.com as "Stealth".

Updated TCExplorer to v1.3
Bugfix: Prevent directories/files in TrueCrypt container from dragging and dropping onto the same TrueCrypt container. The previous bugfix didn't really solve the problem.
Bugfix: Remove error message when no renaming is done.
Enhancement: Added option to view size of files stored in TrueCrypt containers.

That website is down at the moment...
If this is open source, why don't you apply for a sourceforge site?
Cancer Survivors -- Remember the fight, celebrate the victory!
Help control the rugrat population -- have yourself spayed or neutered!
It is in the process. Waiting for sourceforge approval.
Version 1.4 released.
Changes:
1. Enhancement: TCExplorer now has an icon!
2. Enhancement: Allow TCExplorer to open a file from the commandline. e.g. "TCExplorer.exe confidential.tc".
3. Enhancement: Added option to allow TCExplorer to save last window position and size on closing and revert on next launch.
4. Enhancement: Added option to allow TCExplorer to not delete directories/files in temporary directory after exporting is finished so that users can use their own file shredder software to securely delete the temporary directories/files.
5. Enhancement: Added option to securely delete directories/files in temporary directory after exporting is finished by overwriting the files with null characters and then renaming them to ~ before deleting them. Directories are also renamed to ~ before deletion.

From now on, the latest release (and all previous versions) can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcexplorer/
I played with it just a teeny bit. I noticed it doesn't do hidden volumes. I actually tested it so little that I couldn't tell you if it works with regular volumes!

frankly says, that hidden volumes are not supported here:
http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/TCExplorer.asp
To be honest:
I do not use a hidden volume on my USB stick so I do not need a TCE supporting this. TCE is fine the way it is, since it makes possible to use a TC volume on machines without admin rights via temporarily exporting the folders needed (to execute whatever portable app you like). Let the developer include support for Eraser (in order to securely delete the exported folders after one session) and TCE is almost perfect!
Well, I've tried, TCExplorer is able to open hidden volumes, without any problem.
- Bugfix: Corrected over-aggressive check for full TrueCrypt container on import.
- Enhancement: Added message dialog for confirmation of overwriting existing files in container during import.
- Enhancement: Allow user to define any directory as the temporary directory.
- Enhancement: Added option to securely delete directories/files in temporary directory using Eraser commandline (eraserd.exe).
- Enhancement: Added Favorites menu to allow user to maintain a list of TrueCrypt containers for easy access.
- Enhancement: Allow TCExplorer to open a file in TrueCrypt container using the associated program and re-import the file if changes are done.
As usual, you can download the latest version at http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcexplorer/
Great news pengie!
Thank you for this update.

This nice little tool just got even more useful ..
Let me add my thanks for this valuable tool.
I don't see any way to open a TC volume that uses a key file -- can anyone confirm that TCE works only with volumes encrypted solely with a passphrase?
Yes, TCExplorer works only with volumes encrypted solely with a passphrase. It does not support key files because OTFExplorer, the package which TCExplorer depends on, does not support key files.
TCExplorer version 1.6 released
- Enhancement: Added "Delete temp dir now" under File menu to delete the temporary directory immediately.
- Enhancement: Added "Restore Defaults" button to Temporary Directory options.
- Enhancement: Allow user to specify colours for displaying files based on their extensions.
- Enhancement: Allow user to view contents of text files without extracting the files from the TrueCrypt container.
Download it from http://tcexplorer.sourceforge.net/
all I get is a blank directory listing
Try the following link: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/tcexplorer/TCExplorerv1.6.zip?modtime=1...
that works better
