The two aren't mutually exclusive, but I'm sure by USB you mean flash. Shredding flash drives is a bit tricky, and not what I mean. I'm talking about hard drives.

Steganos has a "shred free space" function. Or I used O&O Safe Erase.
O&O has a pretty paranoid thing with (if i remember correctly) 35 erasing cyclies.
