Or get a live Linux audio distribution such as Musix and use Ardour.
I have a band. We've released a CD that was recorded on Audacity. It's pretty (really) good. The only thing Audacity doesn't have is the ability to treat a sound clip as an object (you can drag the whole clip around on the workspace). Ardour can do that. It's pretty similar to ProTools.
The only catch is that Ardour doesn't run on Windows. It's a Linux/Mac only application. So for now, if you want to use it, you have to either install Linux on your machine, or use a live CD.
