Anyone else looking forward to it?

KDE release 3 and earlier runs mainly on unix/X11 based platforms because the basic GPL'ed Qt(TM) library was only available for those platforms. Qt release 4 is now also available under a GPL license on Windows(TM) and MAC OSX (TM), which gives KDE release 4 the chance to also be available on these platforms.
I'm in the process of getting everything to build it for Windows.

Me, sorta

I really don't like KDE but KDE 4 looks like it is gonna be kick-ass, if KDE 4 does not impress me I am gonna keep using GNOME.

As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp.

Slow down...

1. KDE is an entire collection of programs
2. The first stable release isn't scheduled to be finished until October
3. The drive space required is enormous
4. There are several dependencies that would have to be made portable to make it work

Even if it is VERY ******* difficult to make portable

and besides a portable hard drive can be used to put KDE 4 on it.

The point is that you should

The point is that you should wait until it's stable before worrying about making it portable.

I think he meant when it is

I think he meant when it is a stable release. Just because it isn't currently stable doesn't mean he can't want it to be portable.

If he wants to help make it

If he wants to help make it portable, he should look into making Qt (and the other dependencies) portable first. Most, if not all, of KDE4's major dependencies are stable. Plus, it's one thing to make portable a beta release of something that has a stable version already out (e.g. Console 1.42 vs 2.00b131), but KDE4 has no stable versions at all. He should at least wait until the RCs, when almost everything is frozen (RCs will only be changed if there are major bugs).

Alpha, not beta.

Alpha, not beta.
Beta isn't scheduled until the end of the month.

I personally don't like KDE.

I personally don't like KDE. It looks too much like Windows. If I wanted Windows, I would use it.

But it looks nice. I'll only really use it on my PCLinuxOS CD, my Slax Killbill CD, and my KNOPPIX CD (when they come out with their next versions).

Yeah, definitely! Kubuntu

Yeah, definitely! Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon won't have it tho :(. Gustsy comes out like 5 days too early. But KDE 4 should have a SUSE/openSUSE style kicker or plasma better be amazing.
