backup or copying to a new USB key

I have Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 on a Intuix Key, 2GB. I recently bought a new Intuix Key 4GB and I am trying to transdfert or import my mails from the first one. I have been able to transfert the settings and address book, manually but I cannot find any way to back and import in the new Thunderbird application. It works on a regular Thunderbird app. , manually or using back up utility like Mozbackup, but not with the portable version of Thunderbird. To do it I would need to have access to the system partition of Intuix and it is not possible as far as I know and tryied.

Help woul be welcomed.

It seems to me that it would be interesting to have this function in Thunderbird as it exist in Oulook express or to have a specific application to back up Thunderbird files and settings.

PortableApps.com Backup or Copy

You can backup and restore easily using the integrated PortableApps.com Backup utility.

Or you can just copy the ThunderbirdPortable folder from one drive to another.

No need to get complicated here. It's easy. It's portable.

That's Why It's Portable

Like John Said, just move the folder. You also want to clone (copy) that folder everytime time you either make a lot of changes to your program such as adding themes or making changes to the calendar. It's also good to back up the folder if you go into your mail account with your ISP and delete the messages which I do every three months. The calendar file "storage.sdb" in the Profile folder I email to myself when I make a few additions so I have it backed up.

Ever see the amount of steps to back up Outlook Emails? At least 8 of them and you have to edit the registry???

Portable Thunderbird

Step 1: Right Click Program Folder, click "Copy" or Send to (other drive letter).
Step 2: "Paste" if not send to another Drive or CD.
Step 3: Go have a drink!!!

And you don't have to worry about the program getting an attitude and not accepting the settings like with Outlook, you have the whole contained program backed up, themes and all.

Please Help with deleting Portable Apps folders/files?

I just downloaded the lasted version of Thunderbird Portable Apps.
All my email and address book transferred over (whew!).

Is it safe to now delete the old version from my C:\ drive?

Or will that make the portable edition nonfunctional?

I want to do this b/c I only want to use the portable edition from my jump drive, not from my hard drive.

Thank you to whomever is kind enough to answer this for me.

Cheers,
aleksy

It is safe

to delete/uninstall the local version after you made sure you have all your mails.
But if you have enough space on your local drive, you could leave it there as a backup.
