I have downloaded Portableapps Suite and tried to install it to my thumbdrive (ScanDisk mini Cruzer 4g) twice with no luck and now neither of my computers will recognize the thumb drive. It does start to recognize it and then says it may not work properly. I am running Windows XPs2 on my PC and Windows XPs2/Ubuntu dual boot on the laptop. I get the same on both. In device manager I get the yellow question mark. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Can someone help me access my thumb drive? It is brand new. I even removed U3 to install portable apps.
Thanks
Two possibilities that I can think of:
1. It is trying to take a drive letter that is already in use
2. I don't know what causes it, but at my school, if you plug in a thumbdrive, you have to log out and then log back in for it to show up.
Hope this helps
Run "chkdsk
/F" replacing
with the drive letter.
. . . now what? Nothing happens. The black screen comes up real fast and then goes away. I am assuming that means it did not find it.
Had the same problem with the same kind of drive. Had to reformat the usb drive. The driver is available on Sandisk site as Remove U3. Click on "don't save info" option. After reformat you should be able to see the drive via "My Computer" and reinstall PA menu. Also, for some unknown reason, I had to use Tweak UI to tell the computer to recognize removable drives as it would not allow the autorun on the drive to work. Works like a champ now. Good luck.
