For those receiving run time errors, please try installing the Microsoft VB6 Common Controls
Systems running Win2000 or newer should already have them, however some uninstallers will incorrectly unregister the dll's (so your system needs to be fixed anyway)

just downloaded and get following error-message after launch:
Run-time error '339':
Component'MSCOMCTL.OCX' ore one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
new installed windows xp sp2 german
Just read this and downlaod it, shouldn't have a problem afterwards.

i found a standard solution for the problem. if microsoft .net3.0-package is not installed you get the error.
so i was thinking about the issue. if you connect your portable drive to a foreign system where .net3.0-package ist not installed you can't run the app cause you you need administrator rights to install the package. is it right?
its not a .net app it should run without any .net installed.
installing 3.0 more than likely just fixed a broken dll that was already on your system. Some poorly written apps unregister dll's when you uninstall them.
I do not have .net 3.0 on my systems and it works fine.

did you update your system via windows update service ?
yes but I didn't install the 3.0, I always use the "manual" option.

changed some code, seems the last version I uploaded was misassigning the drive letter to the entire app path.
changed the exe name to mpm.exe and updated the ver # to 1.0.0.1

Are you doing this menu just for fun? To replace ASuite/PStart? Or just to explain to John by example what you would like in PAM2?
It looks like you have the Launch Application Path as absolute minus the drive letter. I would need it relative to where the mpm.exe is.
Rather than always use my USB drive it makes sense to use the backup copy on my laptop's hard drive when I have my laptop with me (to save the wear on the USB drive and for faster operation) but here the drive AND the root folder(s) are different ...hence the need for relativity.

Technically relative paths can be relative to root, or relative to the app. These are relative to root.

Do you have a dedicated partition for your USB drive backup? If not I would appreciate you giving an example of your laptop folder structure as I don't understand how it can be done with files in the USB drive's root.

The only file on the usb drives root is autorun.inf, I simply don't backup this file as it is only a 3 line text file.

So I fully understand... your USB drive only has two folders in root and you back these up to two folders on your C drive? This is a very simple setup which allows the use of root-relativity.
I have been using 'portable apps' for many years! long before the term got a 'new' meaning here. I have developed my own tree structure with more folders in root. I want to backup these up to my D: drive (I keep C for the OS) to folder Backups\MyUSBFlashDrive or Backups\MyUSBHDD to keep them contained, and be able to use them on the local drive, hence my need for menu-app-relativity.

I will look into the app relative path and see how difficult it would be to change.
Won't be for a while though, closing on a house in 3 weeks not going to have a lot of time to work on it.

If no menu.ini file exists (new install) it will scan U:\PortableApps\{AppFolder}\{App.exe} and add them to the menu.

the same error, I am running XP Home and this is the first version I have tried, hope you can get it fixed
*Edit* Interestingly the version in the source package work fine, does it have an installer that could be messed up, or it the version in the source old?

I completely deleted the old version and I don't know which one I had.

I started using 1.0.0.5 without the ini file. It was giving me the same error until I put the menu at x:\Portableapps\mpm\ after that the error stopped.

Due to the many issues with VB6 and dependencies on windows files, I have decided to re-write the menu completely in Delphi.
Here's a preview of my new menu. SmithTechPortableMenu
The zip file contains the exe, xml settings file, and all source code.
At this point the folder buttons work, the right click works on the tray icon, and settings will save to the xml file, and it is basic theme compatible with PAM. (and thats it)
Its open source so if anyone wants to incorporate my idea's into there work feel free.
