Thunderbird logoMozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition version 2.0.0.4 has been released. It's the popular Mozilla Thunderbird email client bundled with a PortableApps.com launcher as a portable app.

Read on for more details...

Thunderbird 2.0

This new release has all the great features of Thunderbird 2.0 including message tagging, message history, improved search, saved searches and more. It also includes the improved anti-phishing protection to keep you safe. Support for Gmail and .Mac email accounts is built in as well.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition is now packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades from Thunderbird Portable 1.5 by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all your email and settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

GPG and Enigmail Support

Thunderbird Portable 2.0 also has built-in support for GPG and Enigmail, so you can securely encrypt and sign your emails while on the go. An easy-to use installer for GPG is available. And Enigmail can be installed like any other extenion. Get the full details on how to do it and download the GPG installer from the support topic on Adding GPG and Engimail.

Works like a charm.
Leaves nothing behind.
Another great piece of work, John!
Thank You.

... as promised, I've created a German version based on the original version.

Only the strings are translated in the launcher and the installer, the German App is like it is by mozilla without any change, extension or additional stuff.

The Sources for the modified nsis scripts is included.

@John I hope You enjoy the version Smile

Perhaps we could set a hint to https://portableapps.com/de/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable

There are lots of Schreibfehlers in the German pages...

I know, that is the problem, if there is no time to make it quick and right Sad
I'll fix this in the afternoon . But meanwhile a set You as author of the page.

So You could fix it too, if You have time to do it yet.

I will also check that the 2 of them have the same names for the same stuff (i.e. "bundled" is translated differently on the 2 pages).
Could you give me the Suite page too cause there are a lot of spelling errors there??

I allowed my portable Thunderbird 2.0 RC to upgrade yesterday when the prompt came up and it seems to be working fine. Does anyone see a problem with that? Maybe I shouldn't have let it upgrade from the web?

If you're unsure, just unpack Johns version over your version.

I have been letting mine upgrade from the web also, but it 'seemed' to start crashing. The 'crash' was it stopped connecting to servers and after shutting down I have had to go into task manager and manually close both TB and TB portable (vista home premium). I just re-installed the portable apps version and will let you know how it goes. [edit - still crashing so must be something else]

Maybe the developers can shed some light on what could happen if we let it upgrade from the web? What special code changes make this 'portable'? Also maybe if letting it upgrade from the web is troubling, disable this feature in portable. My 2 cents. Great work though, my life is so much simpler with this product.

Cheers,
Rob

Congratulations and thank you for your job.

The new installer is very good and very easy.

I had some problems to update thunderbird PE 1.5 to 2.0.
I downloaded the new software and I put it in a temporary folder. Afterwards I copy the App folder to overwrite the older one.
I can open thunderbird, but no message appears.

Then I read carefully the instructions. Just install it over the older one: all the configuration, the messages, the accounts and so on remains.

Nothing to say, just Thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you! So very much Smile
I have been using a cobbled together semi-portable version (copied contents of a 'proper' 2.0 install over a 1.5 portable) and it's been wonky, to say the least. You're my frigging hero for the day Smile

John:

Thanks again for your great work. Upgrade was painless and TPE 2.0.0.4 looks gorgeous!
