Simply install new themes

Hi @all,

because there are a lot of question for new themes an how to get them into the menu I've created a qick and easy way to change the menu theme from the menu without changing the existing exe or manual copies.

First Download the themes (en-en Installer) or Download the themes (de-de Installer).
At the moment only the colored themes by smithtech and he default theme by John are included.

Second:Run the exe and answer the path question (where the files will be copied).

Third: Run the Menu and Click to Options-Install new app,
in the 'Add a new App' dialog click 'Install',
in the file-dialog please choose 'Other installers' and navigate to the folder where You store the files from the exe.
Choose one of the themes (*pat.exe for PortableAppsTemplate) an click 'Open'

Restart PortableAppsMenu.

... do it (third step) again and again as log as You'll find a theme You like Smile

(To restore the original theme please choose default)

Regards
Marko

Cool.

That's pretty cool. Good work. Think you can provide the self-extractor in english? Not that it's that hard, but it'd be nicer. And where do there new self-extractors come from? Simeon has one for PokerTH portable too.

Nice idea, Marko

and...
I love the "professional" installers Wink

A newbie on 7-zip, could you give a tip?

I'm drawing a blank here, and I've been working on this for a while. I've done the Search on this page, and on Google, and I'm not finding my answer, so...

I'm trying to build the installers like you have using 7-zip, but I can't figure out how to force the relative path when creating a sfx file so that it extracts into the correct folder.

Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

P.S. I'm having a blast making themes, and I can't wait to try your approach with them.

Tak!

OK, I worked it out in one

OK, I worked it out in one way, but I'm not sure it can't be done better...

I created the following directories in c:

  • -PortableAppsMenu

    • -App

      • -DefaultData

        • -Icon Theme
        • -Theme

I put my custom files in them, then use 7-zip with the SFX checked.
The resulting file has the correct folder structure and installs correctly from the "Install a New App" command.

MarkoM, it works great! I store my *.pat.exe files in a subfolder of the PAM Documents... I think John could adapt this as the standard method for installing themes.

If only we could display the exe files as thumbnail previews....

Heh, I didn't see this when

Heh, I didn't see this when I implemented themes into PortableApps Mod, but it seems we picked the same filename :P. I'm guessing you're overwriting the DefaultData theme, which unfortunately makes it incompatible with PAM MOD's Theming system (DefaultData isn't used at all).

If any one cares...

Could there be a way to restart PAM using a NSIS launcher that sets the theme, starts new PAM (so new theme is visible) and closes old PAM process? If anyone has something like this, will you post it? (I'll try to make one myself and post it if it works.)

'Ive Started It...

It's in the early alpha stages, but is available on my site.
go to http://www.duldrum.co.nr and click "Programs"
The Close function needs work and so does the theme select. Updates will be available soon. They need so much work that they aren't available on my site yet.
