Drupal Error Page.

Has this been discussed, as I always get confused when people are talking about all site related things like the Tracker and stuff, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but it's happened on three separate occasions now, when trying to come to this site I get Drupal error page. Saying;

Unable to connect to database server

And a bunch of stuff about setting up the installation of Drupal if you haven't already.

But what I was mentioning this for is it says says the site login user name, which I feel isn't good since it's one step closer to some hacker trying to get on this site.

I dunno if you know this John, or if it doesn't really matter, I just thought it shouldn't be displaying the user name.

I know

And that's, sadly, what Drupal's error page looks like.

It happens when the server is overloaded. Which seems to happen whenever I update a heavily hit page... like I just did with Thunderbird Portable, which caused it.

There's nothing I can do about it. A *HUGE* chunk of my time is already spent keeping the server up and running. And we don't have enough money for more hardware. Actually, donations and ad revenues haven't even been covering the hardware we have lately.

Awe.

Now I feel bad, you do so much good work, and I can't even imagine how much it all costs to maintain.

I'd donate, but I don't have a credit card, and my parents wouldn't let me spend money donating to this (they just wouldn't get it). Is there any other way to donate money (or anything else), because I would defiantly donate what I could.

I can. My 'rents say I spend too much on my own site and the hosting costs are somewhere in the region of 5% of what John's are.

I'd donate, but for the same reasons as Patrick, I can't. However, the horizon is bright, as I'm working on Limewire Portable and the bounty is $100, which I'm going to donate to this site, if I get it. Smile (Which you would know, had you read my emails Blum )

Currently

Currently it's approaching $13,000 a year. It goes up a bit every month as the managed backup size increases due to increasing database size, etc. Keep in mind that this doesn't include bandwidth for downloads, which are handled through SourceForge.

Downloads are at around 20TB a month and climbing. Our current provider's hardware and hosting solution (which is *NOT* designed or optimized for handling downloads of that size) would charge about $70k per month for that much bandwidth... and we'd have to seriously upgrade the hardware to handle it.

Holy.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Ok. I seriously need to find a way to donate, that's outrageous.

I think you should add that to the "about this site" to get some pity. Blum

Thanks for keeping this project alive.

To me, that's sounds

To me, that's sounds absolutely outrageous. I seriously would donate, if I had a credit card, but even then, I'm working on reviving a 1999 Win98 computer. Kinda hard for a 12-year-old to do.

I appreciate this site much more now that I know that. Er, hope you win the lottery or something .
