Ripping CDs without touching the HD

Hi,

I would like to rip CDs directly to my MP3 device without interfering with the HD of the local PC, i.e. without writing on anything but the RAM and the MP3 device. Is there a portable app capable of doing this? I use both (SuSE) Linux and Windows XP.

Also, I have a general question about portable apps: these apps do not change any boot information on this device, right? For the MP3 device, they are nothing but files, just like pictures or pdfs, correct?

bye

Ripping and Booting.-

To rip CDs use http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/, just copy the folder into your portable device...

And no... if you don't create/edit/copy anything called autorun.inf you don't change bootings...

Should I have a signature?

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

What do you mean with booting?

booting is the process a PC goes through if you start it.
This isn't changed by any portable App.
If you plug your drive into a already running Windows PC and autorun is enabled on that PC, your drive will show up as "PortableApps".
This is changed from the normal to this behaviour if you install the Menu.
But no other App from this site changes the autorun.inf either.

.

I understood he meant to auto start his portable device, since he have a device not intended specifically to be used as a PenDrive, he don't want to change the autorun info.

Hi, well, I would like to

Hi,

well, I would like to know whether the cdexos tool does write anything on the HD of the local PC or not. I mean when I plug in my MP3 device (which contains both music, the cdexos tool itself, and free space) and start cdexos and then rip the CD right inside a folder in my MP3 device, does cdexos leave any marks on the HD of the local PC?

E.g. if I use a knoppix boot CD and then apt-get the lame codec and Grip, I can do what I described: leaving all devices (except the MP3 device) unmounted, I can do all the copying right on my MP3 device without using anything but the device and the RAM of the computer. Does that also work with a portable app like cdexos?

What I meant concerning the booting: I wouldn't dare to install knoppix on my MP3 because I'm afraid it would change something in the booting configuration _of the MP3 device itself_, so that if I wanted to "boot" my MP3 again (pressing the turn on button) it would not load the interface and the device's display would remain empty. My question was (assuming that what I said is correct) whether this could also happen with portable apps?

Could this mean?

Feature List
Direct recording of multiple tracks

Sounds like this would mean that it will directly record to your mp3 player. I found this under the features menu of the site linked to, took me

Sorry, I didn't see that

but does that mean that no huge temp files will unnecessarily be written to the HD of the local PC?
