After installing the Portable Apps Menu and some additional applications along with it, I activated the Option to Refresh App Icons. Icons for these additional apps were added to the menu as expected, but also a number of entries I did not want on the menu, such as a number of uninstall icons, config programs, etc. So I now have a very long menu listing with many unwanted entries and I can't figure out a way to get rid of them, other than by deleting all the ancillary utilities. Is there some way one can simply remove entries from the menu?

The original Menu has no option for these things but everybody here is waiting for a new verson.
IN the meantime, you can try this version. It has much more features than the original BUT it is beta and under development.

I don't want to try it out, beause I don't want to get a long list of uninstallable icons, but can you just temporarily move those files and 'Refresh Apps' again, and see if it takes them out? If it does, then you would move those files back to their original position.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of this option, and expect it would work. There are just so many of these files, with very similar names, especially the "uninstall" ones, I wasn't sure I'd manage to get them all back into their right niches after I temporarily moved them out. I may have to resort to this, but I'll try a beta version first, I think.

since many if those programs are not for day to day use; one way is to rename the file. for example change uninstall.exe to uninstall._exe. if you ever need the file (which is doubtful) you simply change the name back. though i have been using the new beta menu program for several weeks and it works well for me.
I generally add a .bak to the end of files I don't want to see (uninstall.exe.bak), but that's not the best way. If you have the time/patience, I suggest moving each directory one level lower, and making a launcher for that program. I just use copies of John T Haller's command prompt launcher, which runs a specific .bat file, and have each bat file run the desired program which is in a different file system than that which PAM recognizes. You can use a resource editor to change the icons, and add the app icons into the command prompt launcher app file. then just rename it, and it's a relatively easy launcher, with no required nsis knowledge
Oh, and the latest version of the PAM MOD [linked above], is at https://portableapps.com/node/7878 though it is still being worked on, and is not compatible with the current official PAM theming system.
the PAM MOD allows you to right click and hide any unnecessary files from the menu, and has an unhide feature to temporarily show all files, both hidden and unhidden.
