On a recent vacation I had no problem using Firefox USB (U3)on standalone PCs but it would crash when trying to use networked PCs running Windows 2000 at internet cafes. At one location the owner disabled something in Windows and, after re-booting the computer, Firefox was OK. Was this simply a security/firewall problem?
Moved to the U3 Apps forum by moderator JTH. Firefox Portable is the open and free version that runs from all drives.
but that version of Firefox is neither developed nor maintained by PortableApps.com.

Sorry, but U3's current Firefox release was not created by PortableApps.com (though it does use some of our code from a year ago... not that you'll see this credited anywhere on their site) and is not supported (by anyone to my knowledge). So, you're entirely on your own.
Talked to them about how they didn't credit you for source? Because I would be quite upset.

They're including mention in the source (the minimum legally required) but making no mention in the app itself or on their pages (which is considered good form in the open source community).

get over it already. People come here looking for a little guidance and help. If you have a business problem with U3 take it up with them. Your animosity towards SanDisk and U3 is quite apparent.
Okay, I get it, they put 2.0 out there which wasn’t getting done here and gave you minimal credit. People were constantly asking when FFP 2.0 was going to be done and you were dragging your feet. So SanDisk put it out there. Good, I’m glad they did it and it works fine. So what’s the huge deal? They did you a favor. You didn’t want to do it anyway.
If you and your faithful following are going to continue with this attitude, why don't you just pull the U3 forum altogether? You’re not doing anyone any favors like this.
I think that there are a number of reasons that John was in no hurry to support the U3 platform.
Firstly I seem to recall John saying that the numbers of non U3 downloads far exceeded the number of U3 downloads (more than 10 times), it makes business sense (as John does need to try and make money) to focus on your core market doesn't it?
Secondly one of the main themes of this site is the fact that it relies on open source software, by supporting a closed platform John would effectively be helping a competing platform, again, it had no business sense. Also there are no links that point back the here from U3, so no way for John to get a return on his input, if people don't know it was produced here, how can they donate?
I have had a quick look at some of the other comments that you have posted, you seem to be a strong supporter of the U3 platform and not especially interested in the open source alternatives? Why is that?
As for pulling the U3 forum altogether I believe that is exactly what John should (and indeed might be) doing. After all, why should he have to support applications published by a corporation that should have enough money to support their own?

Oh come on. Are you looking to cause trouble? If so, you are definitely going the right way about it.
John stopped developing apps for the U3 platform because of a lot of reasons.
For one, they didn't link back here, so no revenue could be taken from ads. John personally runs this site from his own pocket and from donations, so he needs the revenue generated by ads to support this site. One of his own aims is to get this site self-supporting and his U3 apps weren't helping that.
Also, the fact that most of the user base are using the open-source, run-anywhere apps didn't help that, as he'd have to maintain 2 sets of apps. As you can see from the ever expanding apps list, that would be hell.
Oh, and I'm fairly sure John has tried to contact U3 before, but failed to get a response.

I am not a techie and I had no idea that my post stirs up a hornet's nest. I simply "upgraded" my original PortabbleApps version of Firefox when a 'notice' popped up on my screen. I certainly did not try to tread where I shouldn't. As for "being on my own", well, thanks for all the help.
