After I upgraded from 1.5 to 2 the bottom of the screen on all of the Thunderbird windows is a grey block with red text that says
menu id="offlineMenuItem" insert after="trashMenuSeparator" label="&offlineMenu.label;" accesskey="&offlineMenu.accesskey;"
What did I do wrong?
It could be an incompatible extension. Or it could be some extra files from 1.5. Try deleting all of these:
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\app-chrome.manifest
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\installed-chrome.txt
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.jar
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.manifest
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\components\myspell
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\components\nsDownloadProgressListener.js
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\components\nsUnsetDefaultMail.js
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\defaults\isp
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\defaults\shortcuts
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\plugins
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\uninstall\install_wizard1.log
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\uninstall\uninstall.exe
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\uninstall\uninstall.ini
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\.autoreg

but deleting those files fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.
I tried the above as well and it was successful in fixing the same problem that I had discussed in the other thread.

I have a grey block too.
The only thing you see is: ^
I have deleted all of these files (only 1 + 2 not, I can´t see them) but the problem stays.
Can I overwrite 1.5.0.9 manual with ..10?
the file which causes the grey block is the
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.manifest.
Do you have "show hiddeen files" or something turned off?

Deleting the aforementioned files helped me as well ... mostly. I also found that an older version of Buttons! 0.5.2 can cause that noise at the bottom of the main TB window. Upgrading to 0.5.3.2 resolved the issue, though.
Thanks for the help!

I know it's a bit longwinded but I actually didn't have the first two in this list and therefore started by only deleting these:
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.jar
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.manifest
Started ThunderbirdPortable again and low and behold, the offending bar was gone!
So you might want to try after each line to make sure you don't get rid of something that may be needed at a later time!
Hope this helps!

Just to let John and everyone know that I had the same problem when I upgraded from the previous portable version. So you might want to add a check or a release note in the final build. Deleteting offline.jar and offline.manifest fixed it for me.
Actually, in the final release, it will be automatic with either the installer or launcher handling it. I won't be breaking in-place upgrades or requiring folks to do this stuff manually.

In my case, it seems to be caused by the Attachement Extractor extension (0.9).
Works fine when first installed after tb restart, but next day, instead of showing up in the menus (tools and right-click on mail), there ist the grey block. Uninstall and install solves the problem, but is cumbersome. So erasing some files (which I have also done) may not be the answer in all cases.
Best, jramminger
NOTE: Have solved my problem which was due to some old files from TB 1.5. The fault was with my backup (i.e. with me); now TB 2 and Attachment Extractor work perfectly.
We just had another thread on this topic and the solution is:
You only have to delete this one file:
ThunderbirdPortable\App\thunderbird\chrome\offline.manifest
Just wanted to let you know.

In my case, I agree with Simeon. I deleted the offline.manifest file and lo and behold, the offending bar disappeared.
Great forum with a lot of useful information. Thank you all.
Please be aware of

I had my profile erased during the upgrade of protable 1.5.0.10 to 2.0 RC1. This happened after deleting the offline.manifest file if I remember my steps correctly.
But of course you backed up your profile and all your aother data before upgrading and installing a new program, right?
Not really picking on you, but this is a beta and as such you need to take special precautions.

Well, technically it's a release candidate and not a beta when I was using it, so maybe I should have posted somewhere else.
The profile magically appeared after a while. I did have to set-up the imap and smtp stuff again as well as install one extension I use. Eventually though, the filters, came back. Those were the only things not easily recoverable, so I'm all good now, I think.
I upgraded to PTB2... I just used the installer on my PC, then I replaced the new data folder with my own and executed PTB2...
I'm not able to send mails... (smtp error)
Save drafts and they are missing...
update extensions never finish...
Thanks god I did a backup of my old PTB1.5

making a backup copy of your whole TB folder (with Data, Other, App in it). Install the new one over it. Should work (mine did).
If not, use your backup.

I'll try that...
BTW, I delete other, help.htm, and any txt or uninstall file/folder I find on PApps... I know they have to be there for public release and distribution... but are useless in private use and just take valuable space... like the file in any folder that only say "your blablabla goes here..."
