XAMPP Launcher 1.1 Pre-Release 1

Final version released. Topic locked.
https://portableapps.com/apps/development/xampp

Since there was some interest in my quick XAMPP Launcher Test, I've decided to improve it and post it on the XAMPP page here. As part of that, I've enhanced it to support multiple install locations and packaged it in a PortableApps.com Installer. It will now support the following install locations and search them in this order:

X:\XAMPP
X:\XAMPPLite
..\App\XAMPP (relative to the launcher)
..\App\XAMPPLite (relative to the launcher)

Please give it a try and post your feedback.

Thanks,
John

XAMPP Port Conflict

As long as the launcher calls to xampp-control.exe it will not run if the host is already running XAMPP or in the alternative, it will prevent the host from running XAMPP if a session is running from a portable drive.

If a MySQL session is being run on the host as a service, it is possible the portable version may write to the host data base. The problem is not in the launcher but with the XAMPP-Control.

I'm well aware

I'm well aware of that fact. But most PCs you come across won't be running Apache or mySQL, so it's mostly a non-issue.

Hmm

I suspect that you are right... probably the first one someone will come across will be their own Wink

MySql Trouble

John, thanks for all those new apps you released during the last few days!

I installed XAMPP in ..\App\XAMPP and most features worked fine when using the launcher, but I cannot start MySql.

There is no problem if I manually execute ..\App\XAMPP\xampp-control.exe.

Another workaround is to use the launcher from it's current position but with ..\App\XAMPP as home directory.

BTW, is there a drawback in using setup_xampp.bat? I found it to take a few seconds the first time it's used on a machine, but every time after that it is done pretty fast. It enables you to place the XAMPP folder anywhere on the disk, not just in the root directory.

And, as they say here FileZilla FTP server will not start without it.

Couldn't the launcher first trigger the setup and after that start the control panel?

Setup is not portable

Setup is not portable and leaves stuff behind on a local PC. It also won't work without admin rights.

Did you try running the XAMPP launcher directly? Or was it through the PortableApps.com Menu? If it fails through the menu, that's the working directory bug and I'll release a 1.2 launcher to fix it.

I run it directly... after

I run it directly... after using setup_xampp.bat (if that matters).

No no

Not xamp-control... the XAMPP launcher I published. Does it work for you with or without the menu?

1.2

I found the problem. Try updating to 1.2:

Works!

Yes, that did the trick.

Thank you for the real-time support Smile and for clearing the fog regarding setup_xampp.bat!
