Password Protection for USB Key - NOT Encryption

My old USB Key DISKGO had a small utility (SecureGuard)
that locked the partition and required a password to
unlock and read the Drive/Key. It was not Encryption
software like TrueCrypt...

Unfortunately I didn't research my new drive (Corsair Voyager GT)
enough...It came with FREEWARE TrueCrypt...I don't want encryption
software and I don't want to either have to load the program on
a PC (requiring to be ADMIN) or to use Travel Mode (Also requiring
PC Admin rights)...

All I want is a simple utility to lock/unlock the USB Key partition like I had with my old key using SecureGuard. I also
don't want to pay 50 percent or more the price of the key for the software...Isn't there ANY freeware application out there that does this simple task?

How is that different from encryption.

The DISKGO drives are still

The DISKGO drives are still alive, and yes, they do use encryption.

I do like the idea of using a fingerprint, but a bit over kill for me.

"DiskGO Biometric Flash Drive
Secure Flash Drive Enhanced for ReadyBoost includes security software that allows users to choose between government standard 256-bit AES encryption and 448-bit Blowfish encryption."

http://www.edgetechcorp.com/usb-flash-drives/secure-flash-drives.asp

Same as the U3 in idea.

Did you know that the entire operating system use to fit on a 5 1/4" floppy disk!

Encryption...

I know you said you didn't want an encryption program, but this is more or less just what your after. The only thing you may not want: it doesn't allow you to see your encrypted files. Just read my comment (the last on the following page):
https://portableapps.com/node/6803
I suggest giving it a go after backing up your files, even if you might think I'm a git for posting this anyway. I'm not trying to push this on you, but if your desperate: it's out there.

If you want to see something philisophical or something, don't look this space.

a password is different from

a password is different from encryption in the way that a password
only prevents the mounting of the drive until the password is entered .
You will still be able to view and retrieve all the data with a disk-editor
because it is stored "in the clear" on the device, with encryption you can only see
or retrieve "random" data .

A lot of flash-drives have controllers that support "multi-lun" meaning that
you can have a "private"(passworded) and a "public" partition but you can only have 1
mounted at any time. Also, many manufacturers don't supply the software needed
to utilize this feature .
you could try "lockiteasy" from cososys, it's free (but not open source, so no link)
it works with most sticks that have a controller supporting multi-lun and private partitions .
One controller that supports this is OTi2168 .This controller can also be "re-programmed" to make the device appear as a fixed disk, meaning that you can
partition it with windows and have more than one partition mounted at the same time .
To find out what controller your stick uses there is a nice tool from nirsoft called "usbdeview" . This will read the vendor VID/PID of all usb-devices ever
mounted on your box . This is the VID/PID of the Oti 2168 : 0ea0/2168

BIG BIG THANKYOU to RMB Fixed

And everybody else who answered.
LOCKITEASY worked great!!! I have exactly what I want now...
When I first put the CORSAIR GT 2GB drive in I see a public folder
with only 7.87MB total space. In that space I have the 1.25MB lockiteasy.exe file.
double click on it and input the password I set...Presto...I see my total
drive space of 1.92GB with all my folders and files...You just leave LockitEasy
running in the tray while you are using the drive. When finishing EXIT the LockItEasy
utility. It reminds you to do a SAFE Removal of your USB Key rather than a quick removal to prevent data loss. PERFECT!!! Exactly what I wanted and it's FREE!!
When I was first setting the Partition size the slider was a little funky so I just typed the Partition size manually and applied and it formatted and password protected the whole drive except for the 7.87MB public space it kept for when you first insert it where the LockItEasy.exe file resides. All my portable apps are working at super fast speed now with the new Corsair GT USB Key and no encryption/decryption required. I know if I wanted really high security I'm sure encryption is the way to go but I'm not storing anything super sensitive and just wanted lower level easy to use and fast speed vs. higher level protection.

P.S. Aren't portable apps great...I love just dragging all the folders to back up!!!
