Forget Flash Drive

Hi Dudes,

I have ordered my third thumb drive. Every time I forget to unplug it from the PC at school and if I notice it that I forget it, it is already token by somebody.

Is there a way that I have to unplug it before I can log-off in Windows for example with a prompt or another application which tells me when I log-off on the PC that I mustn't forget the flash drive?

Okay guys I am not demented but it is easy to forget when your head is full of other stuff at school.

Best wishes,
Jordi

I don't want to lay to much

I don't want to lay to much on you at once, but try the PAM Mod with Keviin's Vista Eject theme. That way you just hit eject on your menu, it closes the menu and programs you're running, and it brings up the safely remove hardware dialog. Simple as that!

Heh.

I've been here for 28 weeks, if that tells you much. Just gotta be here a while to learn about all the different stuff. Plus, the beta forum is my favorite forum .

Humor:
Tie a string around your right third finger to remind you. Now, don't forget it!

Seriously, there are times when a simple solution is best; attach a lanyard or a keyreel to the thumb drive. When you get up, the thumbdrive will have no choice to come with you. I found a keyreel at Home Depot that I use for my cell phone after a similar event.

Good idea...

I might remove the usb from the clip before use, and clip your belt to the desk or chair instead. You still get the reminder tug without breaking the computer or USB when the inevitable "forget" happens.

This might be an idea for a new portableapp.
Just a tool that constantly (every second or so) if the computer is shutting down.
If shutting down, it flashed the screen a couple of times...

Good idea?

on my wallet

I try to keep my things with me to a minimum, so like my wallet is a freestyle, which has about 7 cards plus my id, and a key ring bit. I put a stronger tiny ring on it, and attached that to a 2 inch chain attached to the key ring with a tiny but strong clip. I always will have my wallet, so I don't forget to leave w/o my usb key because if I did, I'd be SOL with my whole daily life. Smile

In a pinch, I can unclip the usb key chain, but I nearly never do that.

It also slips into a tiny pouch on the wallet, so it is unobtrusive.

It helps that most of the usb ports are also on front on top of the desk, so the blue glow is visible and aware to my eyes.

Damn, I've found so many usb keys left at desktops at my university. I usually am able to return them to folks, if I find a document with a name, and I look them up at the university directory. It's like returning someone's lost child. Smile

The ones I can't return, I've got a small collection of 512, 1, and 2gb ones that I clean out and give to my students who never had one and could use one. And I always let folks know about PortableApps too. Smile
