Firefox 2.0.0.6 portable Windows does not connect to internet

Hallo,

I run FF 2.0.0.5 for several weeks. Now I updated to 2.0.0.6 and now Firefox is not able to open any page. I simply get the message "Unable to connect".

I downloaded the complete software again (so without any add ons and plug ins) but the original 2.0.0.6 version downloaded has the same problem. I connect directly to the internet and thats also the setting I applied.

Strange is, that IE or thunderbird has not problem at all.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve it?

I am connected to the internet now via IE.
A portable application does not write and registry entries or other nasty stuff.
So a complete new download as I did should normally solve the problem, right?

Any information is very appreciated as I dont want to use IE.

Regards, Eddi

Perhaps Firewall ...

... blocks the new version.

Every good firewall detect if an known application (yes, also portable apps are known by the firewall Smile ) is changed and blocks it depending on the active rules You had set.

Most firewalls (with default settings) will inform You and ask if You wants to let them connect to the inernet. But unfortionally some Firewalls only blocks or You've set the rules to "don't ask me at" (all or something like that).

Please check the rules of Yur firewall an look for an entry of FirefoxPortable.exe and set it to "Full acess", "Acess granted" or somethink like that (Look what the settings for the IE are)

Thats it!

Hi Marko,

you are right. I dont know why zone alarm did not pop up for both, the updated and the new installation, but thats exactly the reason.

Now everything works fine.

Thanks for your help. I am impressed that you found the solution impromptu Smile

np ;-)

hi Eddi,
I could say that's why I'm a genius Wink but that's not the reason ;-).
I've had this problem in the past and other persons ask for it several times.

Perhaps we should set a hint on the support pages.

Regards
Marko
