Portable Variables

in the process of selecting the target folders, I'm having difficulty with the portable variable button - or at least I think I am.

I've read the help file, and the applicable wording is: "The insert portable variable buttons allow you to easily add portable variables without having to type them."

However, inserting a portable variable deletes a previously inserted folder path and, similarly, inserting a folder path deletes a previously inserted portable variable. The only way I found that I can add "@drive@" to a folder path is to manually type it in the proper spot (and - likewise - the only way to put a path after @drive@ is to type it or do a cut & paste of the path from MSExplorer).

I was thinking I could insert "@drive@" into the previously inserted folder path by using the portable variable button. Have I missed something or incorrectly conceived how the portable variable button is to be used?
