...and that's why descriptors are so handy.
Remember, not all of us are as knowledgeable as are you - and/or we may be knowledgeable in other areas of computing than virtualization.
I've never used any of them kinda proggies, but I've at least heard of most of the major players: VirtualBox, WMware, Qemu, etc.
But never Moka5, till now.
Word.

You say "Descriptor"?
Is that actually a word, because I think most people would just say "Description"
And I think "Linky" is just a fun way of saying "Link".

...descriptor is actually a word, albeit a technical one that most folks don't use everyday.
And for "linky", yes it is a fun colloquialism, somewhat akin to "thingy", but obviously, much more specific.

From my experience, there is a subtle distinction between Descriptor and Description.
A Descriptor is a short identifier for a datum or data type in a database or system.
Description is more broad. IMHO, I prefer using Description, it is more correct and sounds less "intellectualistical"

I actually use VMWare Server & Workstation and didn't even know Moka5 existed until this thread.

This linky help you understand?
http://www.moka5.com/about/
It can be found in the top right corner of the webpage pointed to by the 1st linky.

Two responses here:
1) First off, a link that links to another link to find out about the product in question is too much work. This is even more true in light of the next item:
2) Secondly, the description given in this "about" link doesn't really tell us much about the product. I don't see VMware, "virtualization", or any other *specific* info given about the product. If I didn't already know from this thread that moka5 was a VMware analog, I would leave the page totally frustrated, instead of only mostly frustrated.

Their products page is where they actually describe what they do, and why would you go to the products page on your own unless you already knew what you were looking at?
The moka5 site as a whole doesn't offer very detailed info. I saw "VMware" once or twice in the entire site, the most detailed description is on the moka5 home page under "moka5 engine" and even that description doesn't say much.

I looked thru most all of the website and I *still* don't really know what the heck the product is supposed to do. Seems like a lot of marketing nonsense....
...That's ezakly what I'd thought.
I thought of saying that, but declined to do so.
Fortunately, you said it for me. Thx.

Just a thought.
http://www.moka5.com/docs/faq.html
This may help to explain what the program is about.
It appears to use something it calls LivePCs. Similar to VMPlayer/VMWare's images. Which, as mentioned above, are virtual machines which you can run within windows. I'm not sure yet if it's portable, but it would be nice if it is.
For some reason this program appears to want to install vmplayer on the host machine, The install method it takes seems to take __FOREVER__ on my system, perhaps your mileage will vary. However because the vmplayer installer that this software wants to run hangs terribly on my system it seems that it is going to be more of a bother than it's worth. Another thing about it is that it is not open source, and only the betas are apparently going to be free to download. Presumably to help them with working out the bugs so they can then charge for the final product. I'm gonna have to give this one a big thumbs down in it's current incarnation.
It just installs and then uninstalls the VMWare Player and then runs a pre-built virtual machine inside it. This is why it requires admin rights.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
It must be some kind of issue with my system. It tried to install vmplayer, the install hung, after about 30 minutes of no apparent activity, I went ahead and tried to close it. It then proceeded to attempt to uninstall it, after another 15 minutes of inactivity I went ahead and killed it, and moved my system to a previous backup. I'll probably try it again at some later date/version, but if this is the program's typical behavior they've got alot of bugs to work out.
... why?
*its not Open Source or Freeware (read the license, only the beta is free...)
*it uses vmware player inside, but You can not use the images with vmwareplayer (without moka)
*it don't work if You have vmware server installed on Your machine
*the website offers illegal images of vista (the run of vista in virtual machines is
prohibited by the EULA)
To use the latest vmware player version is always better.
The only benefit of moka is the unattended instalation of the vmwareplayer, the rest is an overhead over vmwareplayer...
